Is that a spice of some sort? Cause my food can be pretty ruined by using it.

It is an old African religion, Yoruban. It has apparently gotten a sort of bad rap for have elements of a cult.

if its some sort of magic, then probably not, most of that stuff works off of you believing in it..just dismiss it and try to live a good life.

Only if you believe they can. The potency of a curse depends on your level of belief.

Of course, you can pray to your God to prevent any ill effects being wished on you if that helps.

Santeria has it's basis in African mysticism etc. It's practiced heavily in some Latin cultures ... including by some who claim to be devout catholics.

Demons are real and they play a large role in this practice.

Someone unethical, yes Or someone who feels you have done something so wrong that you need to be punished for it and is willing to take what they will get for doing such a thing.
