What is you opinion on Santeria?

Dear Tigerlily86, what exactly about Santeria is scary?
Well, drinking the blood of animals is better then 'symbolically' drinking the blood of a dead man who died 2000 years ago so that he can change one of his forms decision.

Since I haven't met anyone who follows that religion I don't have any personal knowledge of it. But, from what I have read it's a religion like any other with the major exception being that they sacrifice animals, which are then eaten. So, as long as the animals are treated humanely, sacrificed humanely, and then consumed I have no problem with it.

I guess nobody else saw the movie "The Believers".

i think it is really creepy!
i did a report on it for school, and i was shocked at some of the things i learned. First of all, the initiation ceremonies are typically something like this: the person wishing to join screams, writhes, and drinks the blood of a sacrificed animal, while claiming to be possessed my a god. Santeria promises 'protection from the gods' and 'healing ceremonies'. i thought it was really weird how it is actually a 'branch' of Roman Catholicism; the slaves were not allowed to practice this on the slave ships, so they made up their own religion and called it Santeria. also, the 'Santeria' pray in the Roman Catholic churches to the statues of the saints, claiming that they are other gods. i really hated how they sacrifice animals and drink their blood. there are even stalls appearing in Venezuela, etc, where followers can buy live animals to sacrifice! that is barbaric and inhumane!
i thought it was really crazy that is is starting to gain followers here in America. will we have to see stalls appearing at the local farmer's markets with farm animals for the followers here to sacrifice? and will we have 'Santeria' in white robes praying in our churches?
i found it slightly hypocritical how the religion claims to hate people who use it only for their own personal gain, and call on spirits, but they do it all the time in 'healing ceremonies'.
anyway, i think it is completely insane! and i really hope it does not spread any more to the USA!!
oh yeah, and they also claim to heal 'psychological pregnancies'. what the heck are those?
