Question about Santeria

I'm curious if there is anyone out there who currently practices Santeria and would like to talk. I'm Catholic but am very open-minded and recently just found out the person I'm dating is a practicing member of Santeria. Just would like to know if anyone had more insight that just a go ogle or kipped Thanks!

A friend of mine in Santeria used to see and talk to demons. Not an uplifting experience, I would imagine.

i know there was a Santeria on y!a in r&s a while back, but when i searched my q&a for questions we had both answered, i couldn't find him/her. maybe they blocked me or maybe they deleted their account. sorry.

I was once invited to one of their services. This is what I was told to expect. The Service would begin in the early evening and continue until the we hours of the morning. Although the gathering would be for a specific god all the gods could have to be called otherwise they could become jealous and vindictive. People would go in to trance states interference or mocking then would bring disastrous consequences from the gods or spirits. After hours of successive possession a goat would be sacrificed to the gods and then offered to the participants. Many of the priests would drink copious amounts of alcohol during the ritual.

As a Catholic any participation in Santeria would be a breach of one of the 10 commandment. (you shall not have strange gods before me. There is also a violation of eating meat offered to idols.

Well first of its nice to know you are open minded , Santeria is a religion were the practitioners Belive in the same saints you in Catholicism be live in only with different names and descriptions , The Santos are , first and most importantly GOD , which we call him olefin (same universal god just different name) then they have the Santos (saints) their are over 100 Santos but i will give you the basics
Elegua (saint Anthony) Obattala (Our lady of mercy) Chango (saint barbra) Ochun (our lady of charity) Yemaya (Virgen de regla) ,

Aside from the santos you have 3 types of santeros

1. Boy or Girl Santero/a - Each Santero has their main santo known as their Angel de la guardia , that santo (ANGEL DE LA GUARDIA) in the lives of the santero is a bit higher up than all the others except God.

2.Oriate - An oriate is a santero who has the abiltiy to make the santos talk with cowrie shells (yes cowerie shells sounds wierd but very efective) they must spend their time studying how to read the cowrie , to accuratly tell what the santo says.

3.Babalawo - A babalawo is the highest ranke you can be in santeria, the babalawo aside from being initiated into santo is also initiated in another branch of the religion called IFA , in ifa the babalawo like the oriate make the santos talk , the difference is that instead of cowrie shells they use an item called the Ekuele ,the ekuele allows the babalawo to communicate with the santo known as Orula (Saint francis) (second only to god) when the babalawo uses the ekuele after studying how to read it can tell people what Orula says.
