Default Why would someone become involved in Satanism...whats so great about it?

Is it an actually organized religion? Whats its benefits/ drawback? Im not really interested in becoming a Satanist, nor am I interested in becoming a Christian...but Christianity I know a fair bit about....satanism, on the other hand, seems to be a bit of a mystery...wondering what people like about it?

Satanism is less of a religion and more of a philosophy, where there is nothing more important than your own personal desires as opposed to caring about other people and what they may think. Essentially, it's basically pure hedonism personified in a bunch of atheists with a theater flair and a desire to get reactions out of people. Real satanists don't actually believe in a Satan or a hell, just a bunch of imagery that they identify with for whatever reason.

Mainly a search to change ones consciousness, or for weak men to capture power.

Anton LeVey (founder of the Church of Satan) wrote The Santanic Bible. People from all over started their own covens. Covens usually meet at members houses.
They will often travel out to some deserted area to perform their rituals. The Church of Satan still exist though the founder has since died. The attraction to this church is having power. They believe they can put spells on people and make things happen for them. The draw backs (besides the obvious) once you get involved in something like this it can be very hard to get out of. It seems whenever a member dies (often mysteriously) someone is taking claim to have cursed them. If Christianity doesn't feel right for you then it is not. You know what is right and it is up to you to follow it. The more you do the more it will become clear to you. Just follow your instinct.

Satanism offers the worship of the self, rather than worship of a potentially nonexistent God. The gist is, you do what is right for you, rather than what society says is right for you. It focuses on indulgence rather than abstinence, and satanists decide for themselves the difference between "right" and "wrong."

I don't feel that there are any "benefits" or "drawback" to religion. Religion is your belief; there is no "benefit" involved.

If you'd like to know more about satanism; like an actual overview of what it is, let me know and I can explain it.

There're a couple of great things about it. I used to wonder the same thing. And when I started to read Satanic literature, I started to understand why.

One of the main things you'd learn as a LaVeyan Satanist is getting ahead in life, especially if you're a woman. Of course you can even learn those things without having to be a Satanist. Although without a Satanic mind set, you might not be able to keep implementing this (Satanic) knowledge for very long. Getting ahead in life is important to LaVeyan Satanists because they're atheistic, and so they believe there's no afterlife...and so might as well make the best of life now that you're here on earth.

Here's a link with tons of info on Satanism:
http://www.theisticsatanism.com,
...and if you have time, visit a Barnes and Nobles or any major bookstore to skim through "The Satanic Witch" by Anton LaVey.

Good luck!
