I understand that most people who identify as "Satanists" don't really have supernatural beliefs - it's more about ritual and their own philosophy.
There IS such a thing as RELIGIOUS SATANISM. I'm curious about the reasoning, why one would choose to worship the devil rather than God if you believe both exist.
You don't have to agree - but what do THEY say. What is the logic behind this?
Maybe Satanic people worships evil because they think that they would become more evil and maybe powerful. (loose rs) . I don't believe that exist the devil. THEY are the devil.
I always wondered this: why side with the bad guy in the book when you can side with the guy who wrote the book?
I think there are two possible explanations: first, you might reject the Christian view of the relationship and hold God to be a tyrant and Satan to be an almost noble figure in standing up to the tyrant. This is implied by Paradise Lost (which inspired Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials).
Second, you might go down the route discussed by Evgeny Zamiatin. To him, who lived in Stalinist Russia, Satan represented the human spirit at its best: he was not content even in Paradise. However wonderful he was told it was, and however futile his resistance, he was prepared to stand up for free will.
The two ideas are similar, though one puts more emphasis than the other on the concept of God as a tyrant.
Of course, a third possibility is that they think it will bring them short-term gain.
Of course when you say "This guy is ideal, good, honest, righteousness itself"...there s gonna be an antagonist, a guy who is "bad, dishonest, greedy, and a sinner..." etc. Thats part of how human consciousness works. We dramatize and vilify The rest is technicality.
Your so called *Religious*Satanism* is not a faith.
Humans only worship Satan for the same reason why
they want immortality.
If that syntax is different, you are no longer human,
but demon, which is impossible in your means to
challenge the forces of evil. Otherwise *YOU* will
be in forever sadness, until *YOU* are haunted
down by *YOUR*SINS*.
Yes,Alister Crowley was the founder of the Church of Satan. They have a Satanic bible and perform rituals. ,They worship Satan and believe that he will provide them with certain powers. Most people who choose to worship Satan rather than God have a tendency to have darker souls than most. I personally have never met a Satanist and don't care too.
There are Satanists who believe the Devil is a real being (i.e., the Temple of Set, followers of Zarabanda/Qumbanda, the now defunct Cultus Satanas, and Mexican Diablatera to name a few).So-called "atheistic" LaVeyian Satanists have a tendsCyo think they speak for all Satanists and claim no Satanists worship Satan, which is simply not true. LaVeyian Satanism is merely a personality cult, centered around a bankrupt, wife-beating pimp who died bankrupt. http://usminc.org/satanism
LaVey was somewhat enigmatic about his own belief about Satan. At times he described him as a symbol of mans desires, other times a force; the "darkside of nature", and other times even seemed to think he was a personification, often describing as "the man downstairs" according to Church of Satan defector Michael Aquino.
Psychologist Anthony Moriarty has treated numerous Adolescent Satanists (who tend to think of Satan as a literal being, thus most would be "religious satanists"). He has discovered they usually fall into four catagories : 1. The Psychopathic Deliquent 2. The Angry Misfit 3. The Pusedo-Intellectual and 4. The Suicidal Impulsive. It's something only people with a lot of troubles would try in the first place, obviously. These people are generally sour on life and think the Devil will help them achieve their goals. Many of them wind up in jail instead http://usminc.org/crime
