Default Socialism and Satanism?

Out of curiosity I wondered if the two are compatible?

Seeing as Satanism (in it's many forms) seems to mainly about the individual, natural-selection and not looking after the weak/less fortunate....or am completely off in my thinking?

Socialism is looking out for the weak and less fortunate. (Example "Socialized Medicine") Satanism indulges in the individuals desires without concern for others or consequence.
No, I don't think they're compatible.

They are related in the same way that Hamburgers are related to Hammers.

Your (very odd) description of Satanism actually describes it as the opposite of socialism. How is "natural selection" related to the Christian sect of Satanism?

Hey, some people have actually convinced themselves that Christianity is compatible with evolution.

"Satanism" is a very loose term - to say nothing of "Socialism." You're probably thinking of "LaVeyan Satanism," which is basically a materialist hedonist creed. Its main conflict with Socialism would indeed be that it places all the focus on the individual and his pursuit of pleasure, whereas Socialism subordinates the individual to the community.

Satanism of this sort is much more compatible with Libertarianism.

But on a personal level, all religion, like all politics, is a la Carter; people pick and choose what they like and ignore the rest. The problem, of course, is that when they identify with a religious or political organization, they're implicitly signing on to the whole ticket. But I'm sure there are people who have cherry picked from "Satanism" of one form or another, and "Socialism" of one form or another, and are under the impression that they've crafted a coherent philosophy from those scraps.

Waaaay off buddy. Satanists do what comes naturally, and for many of us that does involve looking after those who are weaker or less fortunate. Personally, because I'm not too fond of most humans, I work at animal shelters to ensure that they can feel loved, because they are deserving of at least that much. And they make me happy, so in a way maybe that can be viewed as selfish on my part, but I don't care.

I think so. The Socialist system governs the state effectively abdicated by the Satanist while insuring the individuals right to indulge in hedonistic self serving enterprises. It's a win-win situation all right.

Whose socialism and whose satanism? Socialism Ala Sweden, no, that won't make sense. Socialism Ala Joseph Stalin, now we're cooking. Keep the masses under your boot heel while your armies conquer the planet to establish a dark dominion that will rule forever. Just beware James Bond and Indiana Jones types. You never know when they'll sneak in and blow up your secret tropical temples of ultimate evil and escape with your mistress. Damn secret agents always get in the way of this sort of plan.

I think you are off.

Satanism (CofS anyway) teaches that the individual comes first and those they care about. If you feel called to give to the community and achieve pleasure from it, then you should do charity work. It's up to the individual to determine how much of themselves they can give - first taking into consideration how much you need for yourself and family. If you can't spare money or time, don't feel guilty.

Socialism focuses on the community as a whole, especially those that are needy - trying to bring everyone to the same level.

That's in contrast with Satanic belief.

Sounds to me like bread and butter.

Here I thought Satanism was the worship of Satan Which in contrast to socialism are hand in hand.

No, I don't think they are very compatible. Satanism is a religion that values the self above all else. Socialism is a form of government that helps the less fortunate.

I am a Socialist because I feel the Socialist system could benefit me, does that mean I'm not a Satanist? I don't think so, because my reasons for supporting Socialism are selfish. Although, I do believe in the fair distribution of the world's resources amongst humanity, and that is just fairness to me. Most people who have replied here may be modern or atheistic Satanists, hence their beliefs, but I am a theistic Satanist, and I do not believe Satanism is all about selfishness (although it is a factor).

P.S. To Bookworm
Just because you value yourself above all else doesn't mean that you can't value others at all. Socialism is a I scratch your back, you scratch mine way of thinking, and as I said above, this is beneficial to ME, whether it is to other people or not.

As stated in the answer above, this is really a question of what is important to you. I don't claim to be a Satanist, I'm more in the realm of an Egotist/Objectivist, but it similar enough that I'll say this: If socialism is important to you and you agree with the philosophy behind it, then there is no requirement of Satanism precluding you from following both.

Satanism is about the individual, but that doesn't have to mean acting only for yourself (although any act that benefits others is motivated by the self). Ex: a Satanic man that lives for helping those less fortunate and gets personal pleasure from doing so, and does it for himself and not for the approval of others. He helps other for his own benefit.

I hope this helps you clear things up.
