The basic tenets of Laveyan Satanism actually make more sense than half of the 10 commandments. I especially like the fact that, at least in one version I've read, it is stated that: "thrice damned is he who harms a child". The rules specifically forbid harming others, in any way harming a child, or engaging in any criminal activity. How is this bad? Look forward to seeing your responses.
because it isn't Xian, and that makes them whine and complain. the satanism book, most likely, doesn't give them the justification they want/need to hate gays, and other people they don't like.
Because the name is misleading. Unless I'm misinformed, most people don't realize that Satanists don't actually wardship Satan, but it is rather a more humanistic philosophy towards conducting life.
Because it isn't a form of Christianity and it uses Satan as symbolism. That's it. Most fun dies don't even bother to really dig into the religion and find out what it's all about. They just hear the word Satan and automatically think evil.
I'd like to see people just be moral and not do harm to others because it is right. Not because of a tribal law made up by a cult. On any level, whatever you want to call the cult.
well I actually think it also reads that you don't have to tell the truth any time and that anything goes. I have read it too and if you read it all the way through you start to feel sick to your stomach and you just want to throw it away and never let any one know you read it you feel so dirty
Since it is GOD who judges and not Satan...what is your point? Are you actually dumb enough to try to make Pol believe that Satan and those who worship him, could ever have a descent or humane idea or value???
Satan comes ONLY to Steal, Kill and Destroy!!! Did you just now get here or what?
Bad rep and misrepresentation. With the huge numbers of people that believe that Satan is evil they automatically associate Satanism with Evil and therefore shun it. Without knowing what its belief is. People dint want to believe anything differ ant and aren't willing (in most cases) to learn before forming an opinion.
Well, first and foremost, think of the name. Satanism. Satan is public enemy number one in Christianity and embodies the evil and perverse even in those who are not Christian. If a religion or set of beliefs sports that name most people encountering that religion are going to steer clear. Also keep in mind that we fear what we don't know. If one doesn't know or understand the religion they're going to be wary of it by default. Add such a sinister name and many will be completely uninterested. Through misunderstanding and rumors anything can become bad in the public eye.
By the way, I apologize for those who post and prove my, and other clear-minded responders, point.
Satanism is the opposite of Christianity, the most practiced religion in the world. The type you mentioned isn't necessarily bad, but other versions are. Satanism associates itself with a wide variety of evil deeds such as sacrifices and other things of that nature. Also, since Satan is the Christian "bad-guy", if you will, anything associated with him is automatically considered to be evil.
The reason it is seen by many as bad is that it takes its name from the antithesis of Christianity. If God is Good, and Satan is bad, then Satanism must be bad.
Too, Satanism is essentially hedonistic. Good things are done because they get you what you want, rather than simply for doing good.
I actually like the Wiccan Rede more than other systems; "an it harm none, do what thou wilt".
I'm not an expert on Satanism, like you clearly are, but I've read a little. What scares most people is probably the word, Satanism. From what I've read off the Church of Satan's website, I'm more concerned about the selective breeding, and that all inferior genetics should not breed, and the atheistic part just plain scared me. I'd actually feel better if Satan was worshiped, because then at least people would feel like they have someone to answer to. The idea that you are your own god is disturbing. But I'm not a Satanist or even a Christian, so what do I know.
Well the only reason satanism is bad cause its states that in the bible, I my self dint read the bible, you have the right to pray and or worship in the privacy of your home or house! It does not say in the bible that if you do not go to church you will go to hell, so long as you pray in your house and believe in the lord Jesus Christ, there will be no problem at all!! this IS ONLY ONE GOD although many say there is more than one or pray to more than one god! but just believe in your self and your god you choose! As far as i am concerned there is the sky, and there is the ground the sky is endless and space is endless and the ground is somewhat endless but is only goes so far! people pay way to much to be buried, hell, just Burr me in a cheap pine box and I will be fine with that!!
I recently learned about Satanism. I had a hard time getting past my preconceived notions because of the name. Satan is real and a total liar, and it is still bizarre to me that anyone who doesn't appreciate being associated with him named their religion after him. But I do understand now that The Church of Satan is atheism, as one person put it, "with rules". To your comment that the tenets make more sense than half of the ten commandments: uh, no.
Yeah....this religion is the one I practice, and thus I do think it makes sense. I really like the principle, (even though I stay away from the whole magic part) but what I don't like is that most Satanists think everyone who has a different belief is a complete idiot. I think everyone deserves respect, no matter what they believe.
People hate it because it has the letters s, a, t, a, and n all in the same word.
I think satanism is bad because it is linked with Satan, who is the great deceiver and is opposed to everything that God stands for. Many things "sound" good or at least harmless but we find out too late what they really are. Jesus said that if you aren't for Him, then you're against Him. No man can serve 2 masters. If Satan is your master, then you have been deceived. If you aren't a Satanist but still don't believe in Jesus, you still have the same fate because you are lost. You get to choose what you believe and who you serve.
Well this battle has been going on for quite awhile in American history(as well as other countries) and now it's a well set stereotype. Personally I don't anything about this practice but just by looking at the word "Satan" makes me leery and unease because in major myths and religions -Christians, Muslim, Egyptian myths, Greek myth, etc- "Satan" is considered as a tyrant, evil serpent, snake, "fallen one", root of all evil, dragon, "Giant", along with many other names. All of which meaning "evil" or bad. And this alone gives people the idea "Satanist" are talking to the famous "demon" himself. Finally another thing is the lack of knowledge of this religion.
Satanists question everything. We don't blindly accept any principle on faith. Traditional ethics, "free will", God, etc. We put every idea to the test and find out whats really behind it. Societies have always hated to have their precious ideologies tested, this can be seen by what Athens did to Socrates. Plus, having Satan as your symbol doesn't help things any. In short, threes nothing wrong with Satanism. Its just how people perceive it.
LaVey also based his ideology off of Aliestar Crowley's teachings as well...."do as thou wilt, shall be the whole of the law" was Crowley's total philosophy....and basically what all forms of secular religion break down to. Seemingly moralistic and acceptable on some aspects of the belief system, one cannot simply overlook the foundation though. "thrice damned is he who harms a child"?? kinda redundant when the world as a whole is damned anyway...
It's kinda like taking fecal mater and chocolate dipping it attempting to make it acceptable....in the end, it may have a nice appetizing coating on the outside, but on the inside, it is still crap.
Satanic rituals performed by black-robed priests in dark cellars, chanting prayers over bound victims on an altar, with flickering candles casting eerie shadows on the walls as the worship of their god, Satan, proceeds. Drawn close by the secret knowledge of some shared mystery with a touch of the supernatural, the young participants on this journey into the occult relish the tingle of excitement that fills the air. They draw close with an uncanny feeling of an exclusiveness that they alone possess.
A harmless, passing fad? Or a demonic evil pervading today?s society?
REAMS have been written in newspapers, magazines, and books about the lurid deeds of satanic cults. Details of the widespread activity of violent satanic groups have been aired on national television and radio. It has become a major problem for police in both the small and the big cities in America, Canada, and Europe.
Satanism has a special lure for today?s youths. The founder of the Church of Satan explains why, as reported in ?Teen magazine of June 1993: ?Instead of commanding members to repress their natural urges, we teach that they should follow them. This includes physical lust, the desire for revenge, the drive for material possessions.?
How Satan must be pleased with this diabolically inspired ideology, since it goes counter to God-inspired Christian principles!
Satanism is on the rise. It is a growing menace, but its demise is imminent. Its god is under sentence of death. So is Satan?s world and its supporters, for ?the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one.? (1?John 5:19; Romans 6:16) To Satan?s worshipers and to all others who are knowingly or unknowingly serving Satan?s purposes, Jehovah?s message is: ?The God who gives peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly.??Romans 16:20.
What future will then come to suffering humanity from ?the God who gives peace?? The three articles that follow will show the rise and fall of Satanism and the conditions on earth that will replace it.
Life and all else is but a personal perception made up by the innate believes and ethics indoctrinated through time by repetition of key phrases to make it stick. "Don't do that"... "that's not possible"... "that's the root of all evil"... "everything good comes from god and everything bad is the devils temptation"... this is just some of these phrases.
When this is brought into the calculation of what is right and what is wrong, the internal conflict that yields the drive to analyze and dissect becomes void thus what was imprinted is automatically brought to the front as the possible truth. This to some is enough to go on living and won't question any further.
But to some this is not the way.
Reason for mention is that society has said a lot about something that has never had the full truth in view of public opinion. Well mainly due to stigma... Yet this does not prove that they are wrong in any way for choosing the path of Satanism. Yes the unknown is feared but does it justify that severe judgment may be passed on those that actually have a deeper understanding into the field pass the clutter of public stigma? No and this is actually evident in the sacred book of the Christians, that same book used to throw at people not necessarily of the churches opinion.
How is it possible to classify something as "dead wrong" or "evil" if it entails taking responsibility for once for your own life, choices and actions as this is what causes the next moment to come into being and the manner in which it will manifest. This is exactly why Satanism exists. Satanism as philosophy also has evolved quite a bit since the first publication of Satanic literature thus to take one book read it and say now I have sufficient knowledge to judge it is also wrong from an academic view point.
Satanism as Religion is where you, yourself become the god of your life. Being the adversary of popular believe and the herd mentality of the gross of society... if it wasn't for this reason, invention as a science would never have existed because nothing would have been questioned and nothing is set a measurement stick to trace personal growth. To follow blindly is what Satanist are against.
Nothing is bad in Satanism as philosophy... Yet the intent with which it is approached is up to the individual but this goes for anything the Human wishes to embark on... Damn look at the Christian Crusades... where in the teachings of the sacred book is that justifiable?
A LaVeyan Satanist basically follows a simplified form of Objectivism which is a philosophy developed by Ayn Rand (and known for its support of lasses-faire capitalism), with a dash of Nietzsche, and has a need for rituals and ceremonies with dark imagery. Objectivism does not believe in "altruism" and upholds the virtue of rational self-interest. A secular humanist is one who follows the humanist philosophy and sees no need for rituals, ceremonies, or alternatives to church structures. A religious humanist follows the same philosophy but has a need for rituals, etc.
Many people do not like it when you refuse to play the game with their board and pieces. It is a challenge to their ego.
