No, It's from the old symbols for man and woman a chalice and blade. the chalice is v and the blade is the opposite, linked together they make a pen tangle. also used the "wrong" way up for the star of David.

If you have to ask this question, you shouldn't be doing rituals.
Seriously.
Yes, an inverted pentacle can represent someone who defines themselves as a Satanist, but because the star itself represents the elements, you probably should be looking at the deeper meaning of the positioning of your ritual tools. That's all. You're not a Satanist now just because you "did a ritual" and got "good results" with an inverted pentacle. If I were you I've invest in more study, less action.

Satanism uses it, but it is not necessarily a satanic symbol.
Rituals work ,IMO ,not by invoking spirits / demons, etc. but by the power of the Mind. The ritual is just a focal point for thought. All of us think into, and use the Universal Mind , and draw our energy from It. This is the way it should be. A prayer, ritual, or spell concentrates our thoughts and helps empower them to bring about the desired end. WE tap into the Universe ,which is unlimited power . The problem is ,our connection is hampered by our human consciousness, which allows doubts and fears to enter the mix. The more clear and confident we are, the better it works. One caveat: Evil intent will eventually lessen your power, and also invite negative karma. What comes around ,always goes around, sometimes multiplied .

no the inverted pentacle doesn't have anything to do with satanism. people will tell you that it does, but it doesn't. when the pentacle is right side up it brings in good fortune and when its inverted or reversed it blocks out negative energy. it really depends on you, if u be live that it will do bad work then the end result will be negative.
DO not use the pentacle if Ur planing on using it for something negative please

thanks

I dint have much to say to you on this one but listen to that Charles or w/e guy... He is speaking out of experience and world-view which is ultimately what makes everything work.

Experience brings belief and belief brings power, he understands the connections and flows of the meta-physical realms, more then even that pissed of Wicca :P

But I seriously think you should take everyone advice and do some serious research and meditation before you do ANYTHING else or some spirit or even ill-intentioned person is going to latch onto drain or torment you, maybe all of the above.

I agree with BATHORY & M1 both. It is not the symbol that has the power but you and you have to release it through that symbol. Again if you don't know about what you are doing and must ask such questions please study first and watch what you are getting into and are doing, such can be dangerous to the uneducated.
Vengeful gods can be vengeful.

This symbol has been used for many reasons with many cultures claiming it as their own. Yes, even Christianity once used the symbol. I understand that the point to the sky = As Above, the point to the ground = So Below. The combination of male = sword, female = chalice. The horned god = Baphomet , not necessarily the Christian Satan though. DaVinci Perfect man. The Elements and Spirit.

Your intent is the actuality of the symbol and flows through it.

No, the inverted pentacle is not always associated with Satanism. In some Wiccan traditions the inverted pentacle is used as a symbol for a second degree initiate. It's meaning varies depending on which religious tradition you're working with. To some each point represents the elements (earth, air, fire and water) with spirit at the top (or in the inverted pentacle's case, the bottom). With the point up it is supposed to represent spirit (or the divine) ruling over the material world, so inverted it means the material world ruling over spirit. Within my tradition this is slightly different, with the inverted pentacle symbolizing spirit and the divine underlying and being the root of all things.

Some satanists have adopted the inverted pentacle as their emblem, but it doesn't mean they have a copy right on it or something.

The meaning of a symbol depends on the person looking at it, there are hundreds of different interpretations of it's meaning (for example it was used as a Christian symbol to represent the 5 wounds of Christ).

I'd suggest you do more research into the topic if you want to continue with ritual. Ritual has far more power when you understand what you're doing.

No; it is a symbol, no symbol is owned by any one faith.

Masons use it occasionally, so do some Witches/Wiccans in certain rites, and ceremonial magicians.

alto has to do with your intentions, the old belief was that this was satanism but if you look at the Wicca religion and the true meaning of the pentagram you will realize that the five points within the circle of life each mean a different thing based on the elements, for further information please go ogle.

No no no. The inverted pentagram is used by satanists yes, but it's use is far far far older than that, older than Christianity even. It was actually even used as a christian symbol at one point representing the five wounds on Christ's body, including being a symbol of Knightly chivalry, with each point representing one of the 5 knightly virtues.

It's primary and most prolific use throughout history however has been for Pagan religions, and the relatively recent Wiccan religion. The upward point of the star is representative of the spirit. The other four points all represent an element; earth, air, fire, and water. All these things contributed to life and are a part of each of us.To wear a pentagram necklace or other form of jewelry, is to say you feel the connection with the elements and respect the earth.

A pentagram may be open, without a surrounding circle. This is the active form symbolizing an outgoing of oneself, prepared for conflict, aware, active. (One wearing an open pentagram must be physically aware of the danger of sharp points sticking in their skin from time to time). As a pagan religious symbol, the open pentagram represents an open, active approach.A circle around a pentagram contains and protects. The circle symbolizes eternity and infinity, the cycles of life and nature. The circle touching all 5 points indicates that the spirit, earth, air, water and fire are all connected. The circled pentagram is the passive form implying spiritual containment of the magic circle, in keeping with the traditional secrecy of witchcraft, and the personal, individual nature of the pagan religious path.

The pentagram may be inverted with one point down. This means that the spirit is subservient to matter, man is subservient to his carnal desires.

The inverted pentagram has come to be seen by many pagans as representing the dark side and it is abhor ed as an evil symbol. Fundamental Christians see it this way too.

However, these are recent developments and the inverted pentagram is actually the symbol of Gardnerian second degree initiation, representing the need of the witch to learn to face the darkness within so that it may not control them.
