sorry I'm on the opposite fence - even the Catholic church agrees that, when a child is old enough to understand and knows Christ, s/he can see the love and wisdom that is focused upon in the series - good over evil, love conquering all, love of family and friends, giving of yourself for others - things like that.
LOL. No. They are for entertainment purposes only.
However, little kids are impressionable. I know one in particular who became obsessed with magic at the height of HP. We had to take him to this magic camp the southern baptists down the street were offering. It showed them magic tricks and the difference between that and what Jesus did. How magic is all an illusion and there are no real witches and wizards. I mean the kid was getting pretty obsessed. The camp really helped him a lot, but now we have to watch these dumb magic shows he puts on for the family all the time.....
Churches need money because they're pyramid schemes and must keep sucking money to the top to survive. " Harry Potter books promote Satanism" is just another scam to bilk the rank and file out of their hard earned bucks. Next year it will be something else. IT NEVER ENDS!
IT -- NEVER --ENDS!
As a believer in God my answer reflects his word
"What is not of God is of the devil"
So if the one who reads this is a believer you already know the answer for you are of your spiritual Father.
if the one reading this is not a believer you are of your Father.
And as for Harry Potter it is just the same as any other work that is not of God.
Not necessarily Satanism, but some believe that it promotes witchcraft and wizardry, which is condemned in the bible. However, the overall message of friendship, conquering evil, etc, should be praised.
Some people do (though, just for the record, I'm not one of them).
Why? I don't know. These people who are so worried about Harry Potter promoting Satanism, witchcraft, etc. also ignore virtually all other books and movies in the fantasy genre. Take The Wizard of Oz, for example; Dorthy gets help from a witch (who at one point in the movie version asks her, "Are you a good witch or a bad witch?" "A good witch," was Dorthy's answer!), who proceeds to tell her to go see a wizard (GASP!!!) in order to be able to get home (sure, the "wizard" turns out to be a humbug, but still...). Yet not a single peep from any of the anti-HP people!
Do we next have to worry about history textbooks in school promoting crazy dictatorships just because they talk about Hitler?
