Luciferianism can be understood best as a belief system that venerates the essential characteristics that are affixed to Lucifer.
Luciferianism is often identified as an auxiliary of Satanism, due to the canonical identification of Lucifer with Satan. Some Luciferians accept this identification or consider Lucifer as the light bearer aspect of Satan, and thus could properly be called Satanists. Others reject it, arguing that Lucifer is a more positive ideal than Satan. They are inspired by the ancient myths of Egypt, Rome and Greece, Gnosticism and traditional western occultism.
There are several different viewpoints on how Luciferianism is defined. These include:

The Bible says that Satan comes as an "angel of light"

so to recall, its all about the highest level of knowledge and worshipping the "good" side of Satan, which they call Satan, Lucifer.
God changed Lucifer's name for many reasons, but the main reason was because Lucifer fell, therefore, he was no longer honored with that God-given name, therefore, God changed the name to Satan.
God is known to change names throughout the Bible, for example Abram became Abraham, Sarai became Sara, Saul became Paul, Jobab became Job and so forth. changing the name of a person was a common method because of the meanings of the names. For instance, many of the Israelities who were taken captive by Bablyon where given Bablyonian names, example was Daniel
So Lucifer and Satan are the same spiritual being.
People who claim that both are the same, might be quite surprised at the reality of it. If you call a suffering a satanist, it is a lot like calling a pert Rica a Mexican. They become livid. And for no good reason.
All the sufferings I have spoken with are generally angry people, and point a lot of their hate at Anton LaVey and his teachings. I could find no real reason other than possible jealousy.
