I understand that its just as ridiculous and petty as any other religion. So why should i care what your little superstition is about? HAve fun being primitive and UN-educated.
It's about the pursuit of personal pleasure during this life, unless you're a theistic satanist.
No altruism, unless that makes you happy.
It's also about personal responsibility.
Aw did i inspire this question. No i dnt but the name says it all. No offence but i dont want to end my life and thatts all i understand about satanism
I do. Don't doubt me. I'm not that ignorant. I have the Satanic Bible as well which is by LaVey...I can see your name. There are several different types of satanism. But, generally, it means you are your own God and you live by your own standards not by what someone is telling you.
Wow I'm surprised...a lot of people are so damn ignorant. Satanism is nothing what you think it is (referring to those people). Satanists aren't evil people...they still have morals...they just are good out of their own heart instead of because of God telling them to be good. They are their own God meaning that they live life how they want to instead of how God tells them. They aren't scared of going to hell or consequences but that doesn't mean they do bad things. The majority of Satanists are just really nice people who don't like to be controlled by a God. They aren't these evil, animal sacrificing people, that they are are made out to be. It's sad that people are so ignorant. Do your research people
!!
All I can understand is it's where one follows the Father Of Lies, other than that don't know and dint care. Everything starts with something. Good started with God and evil started with the devil. The biggest war of that has been going on since.

Well, speaking as a priest of the Church of Satan myself, I can say yes!
Unfortunately, most other people would like to blindly believe whatever they find in Christian propaganda or B-grade horror movies. Even though "The Satanic Bible" has been in print now for 40 years, and Christan.com is only a few mouse clicks away, people are just lazy. Some of the answers here make that evident.
There really are no different "kinds" or "sects" of Satanism. The first known time in history a group of people identified as "Satanists" was the Church of Satan, started in the 1960s. Devil worship is devil worship, not Satanism. It's ridiculous to use the label of Satanism to refer to something that disagrees with it on the most fundamental levels.
you actually ruin your life by not understanding things/ideas.. i don't understand it fully in the same manner that i do not understand christian ism.. agnosticism.. Buddhism.. and everything else.. but i try.. i accept the fact that i can try learning them but not fully acquire the knowledge..
Let's rephrase this question. Do you really understand satanism?
Rest assured, that Satan exists, and wants to play with your mind. Either way he can use you/us. It does not matter if you/me believe in him or not. Whatever works.
Satan is called the 'Adversary', 'The Father of Lies". Now why would that be?
One of my dear friends is a High Priest of a Theological sect. I know a lot of CoS members as well. I was the heathen mod min for the old heathen, pagan and satanic chat. An old boyfriend was the Satanic (he was CoS) mod min and an Internet buddy was the pagan mod min. So yes, I do understand Satanism, both forms, though I'm more familiar with Philosophical Satanism than I am with Theological Satanism. Satanism in general is just one of many philosophies/faiths I have studied over the years. We heathen types are VERY into educating ourselves. Nothing is more disgusting to our deities than willful stupidity.
Well, *almost* nothing.

Edit: Geezah, I, like many other people, consider Lord Byron, Emily Dickinson and several others of their time to be the first to openly live with the Satanic philosophy. They most likely didn't *call* themselves that, but they certainly acted like Satanists. Of course there were some before them that *might* be considered Satanists, but I feel they give modern Satanists a bad name, and failed to live up to the moral standards demanded by your faith. However, I still don't consider LaVey to be the first by any means. The first to define and codify it, yes. But definitely not the first, IMO.
JMO, of course. No one can define anther's faith or tell them what to believe or how to believe it or who to accept in their faith or deny. We all rely on our own perceptions and not those of another in the end. Well, those of us with half a brain do, anyway. And Satanists are some of the most determinedly intelligent folks I've met, as far as religions go. <grin>Why, you're right up there with us heathens!<even bigger grin>
