It's more closely related to humanism, but also has some occult type spells/ritual attached.
The idea is that you are your own god, and that you should be primarily concerned with your own needs above all else, but without infringing upon the rights of others. The desire to help others is still linked with an inner desire to gratify ones self.
Many of the ideas in the book are not original to LaVey. This is different from the idea of actually worshiping Satan, which would be theistic Satanism.
The vast majority of Satanists don't believe in god or the devil. They believe that people should live to satisfy their carnal urges. Basically,they think you should do whatever you want without regard to any rules/morals. It's totally based on self satisfaction. The Satanic Bible was written by Anton Lavey and his followers are known as Laveyan satanists.

the 16 yr old goths who call themselves 'satanists', are not choosing the name, or the religion because they think it's something to do with Egyptian religions, Cahra's or Kundalini.
Words come with cultural baggage and meaning. calling something 'satanic', and then trying to divorce the word from hundreds of years of meaning is retarded, and - lets face it - the word 'satanic' was deliberately CHOSEN for the power and intent that the word conveys.

The bible is a very powerful subliminal tool to control the masses. One can see this is a man-made work as there are endless contradictions.
