Default What do you think about LaVeyan Satanism?

Just looked up the price. It's $100. But you don't HAVE to join it. Just live by the philosophies.

I read their Bible and I agree with it for the most part (though not the 'should someone wrong you on one cheek, bash them on the other' stuff). I would never be a LaVeyan Satanist because I can believe all that while just being a plain IL' atheist.

It's too hedonistic, and Anton LaVey was all about the money. Honestly, why else would it cost $200 to join the Church of Satan?

It's just a selfish, pseudo nihilistic philosophy. It's pretty contradictory for satanists to basically join a club that preaches being an individual.

But, contrary to popular belief, it has nothing to do with the devil.

I tend to think of satanists as wannabes. They're trying too hard IMO.

I agree with the underlying philosophy, however, the use of the term of the Christian antagonist is somewhat off-putting as it lends a degree of validity to the concept.
I also get the impression that many of it's adherents are former Dungeons and Dragons addicts.
Not saying that it's a bad thing, but not my cup of tea.

i think that a lot of people just assume its about devil warship and causing evil.

if they actually bothered to read it, they would see otherwise.

personally, its not for me, but I'm glad i at least took a good amount of time to read about it

It is the only religion based on reality, truth and facts! Hail Satan!
Best thing about it is, EVERYONE follows the philosophy whether they know it or not!

Atheism with rules.

I think it is an incredible teaching to some points. I see it more of taking sort of...pagan values (such as don't do it to someone else if you don't want it done to you) and instinct and throwing them into a mixing pot. Tada...modern satanism.

I also like the fact that it is against satanism to kill animals for any reason other than food or protection....

and how you shall NOT harm a person unless that person is in your personal territory and ONLY in your territory and it is clear that it is your territory....and they are doing harm to you.

but eff spending $200 on it

I think it's fine if that is where your path leads you.

Not really sure how to answer this question, I feel the same way about all religious, spiritual, and non-beliefs.

Satanists creep me out a little bit.
I don't agree with your philosophies, but I support your right to have them.

Ive answered this same question a couple times. when i was a teenager i read the satanic bible. the only thing about Lavena satanism is selfishness...to indulge in what pleases one..be it sex, killing..whatever; according to the bible the Most Important holiday is ones own birthday....nothing but selfishness is what it amounts to. and not to mention BS.

Since they were the first above ground form of Satanism people tend to think that that's when in Satanism started, in 1966, but it dates back further then that and LaVey states where he got his inspiration from. None the less the Satanic bible is a good book and a must read for all who are interested in those types.

Edit: It is not selfishness like one would think but rather being true to yourself.

I believe it's a good way to live your life. I have read the Satanic Bible, and I agree with most of what it says. Pretty much the only reason I don't call myself a Satanist is because I disagree with Anton LaVey's rules regarding revenge. If I believe that someone deserves retribution for a crime, then damn it, I'm going to make sure that happens.

I've had a treasured copy of the Satanic bible for decades. I agree that if god exists he would want me to be happy... and that following my bliss is far more real than living inside some externally defined box of rules. I am happy when those around me are happy... when my community is happy... and when my world is happy.

Its Simple Logic: Satanism is good for world happiness.

It's a slave religion like all the other religions that demand you accept and live by their dogma. Plus the best parts of the Satanic bible are actually plagiarized from Author Desmond's aka Ragnar Redbeard "Might is Right" published in 1905 and not just a few sentences whole chapters. LeVey merely modernized the grammar. And it's $200 now, the $100 price was back when I was a member and most of you know I'm an old man now.
You all might find this interesting.

Satan is about freedom and revolution the Church of Satan is about control and exploitation.
You be the judges.
