I know that LaVey Satanists are atheists and it's just a religion created by LaVey. my question is before him, did Satanism exist? and if so, what religion was it and did it believe in Satan as a god?
also, in the church of Satan (the lave satanists) what do satanists do exactly....? just out of curiosity...
i know they don't believe in anything supernatural, is that true?
also, does the religion have any rules or certain ceremonies...?
True satanists worship the vile old testament god and are called Xians.... The church of Satan basically endorses atheism and hedonism and frowns upon ignorance. The cardinal sin of satanism is stupidity...
I'm a atheist and usually that means they don't believe in A god...that includes the devil.
Also Satanism is stupid...it's like a Jew person becoming a Nazi.
Life is what you see, there is no such thing as the Super Natural. The law of physics and science would always change and never make sense.
Satan is an Anti-god, he was always considered a god just not a holy one. He isn't more powerful then God but he isn't weaker then God. Both are powerful and no one has more power over the other. "Speaking in religious form."
Flaws in what this person wrote:
"They expect to be welcomed into Hell, and reap their "glorious rewards" that they expect to be given them as promised by Satan himself, as if he will keep his word."
This is Shir, nobody would want to go to Hell because Hell is a punishment. An eternal amount of time of suffering, if you want your rewards you are going into Heaven because there you can live in peace. Also "if he will keep his word." Satan is a bullshitter and why would you even worship it?
Yes I said it, if it's not living in a body it does not have sex cells to consider a he or she. Another flaw in religion...
LeVey did not invent Satanism, he just began the church as an official religion to use the First Amendment. Satanism has existed in different forms since the dawn of man. Satanists worship Satan as their god of choice, using different types of sacrifices to bring forth Satan at the end of time. They expect to be welcomed into Hell, and reap their "glorious rewards" that they expect to be given them as promised by Satan himself, as if he will keep his word.
A lot of these questions are answered in "The Satanic Bible", which is relatively easy to find as a cheap paperback. (Though I'd avoid any alleged "on-line" copies, since a lot of them are incomplete or filled with viruses, not to mention illegal.). But as long as I'm here...
>>my question is before him, did Satanism exist?
It depends on what you mean by "Satanism". As for an actual religion called "Satanism" with practitioners who identified as "Satanists", no, there is no known evidence for that before Anton LaVey. Were there people who seemed to reflect the philosophy that Anton LaVey described, even if they didn't have a name for it at the time? Yes, and we sometimes refer to these people as "DE Facto Satanists".
Were there people who DID believe in Satan as a deity, and worshiped him in some way? Yes, devil worship has been around for centuries. Though sometimes it's hard to tell the real stories from the stories made up by Christian churches in order to scare people. There were people like Sir Francis Dashwood and even Benjamin Franklin who were involved in organizations that did "Black Masses" and the like, but they were mostly done just for the entertainment value.
>>in the church of Satan (the lave satanists) what do
>>satanists do exactly....?
The Church of Satan is a cabal of individuals who happen to share a common philosophy. It's not actually a physical place where we gather together periodically. So if you want to see what the Church of Satan "does", you look at what the individual members are doing. Different Satanists find different ways of applying Satanism to their lives and furthering themselves. You can see many examples if you go to http://www.churchofsatan.com and click on the "News" page.
>>i know they don't believe in anything supernatural, is
>>that true?
"Supernatural", to me, is a bit of an oxymoron because if something can be observed and quantified then by definition it's part of the natural world. You could say that SOME of us are into the "super normal", meaning that we accept the fact that some "unexplained" things do happen, and might be worth investigating, even if they turn out to have (as is almost always the case) some scientific or psychological explanation.
>>does the religion have any rules or certain
>>ceremonies...?
If you go to the Theory/Practice page on our website, you can find an outline of our tenets such as the 9 Satanic Statements, the 11 Rules of the Earth, etc.
We do have ceremonies, because we realize that ritual can serve as a very good psychological tool, even if you recognize it for the man-made invention that it is. Humans are very bent on symbolism (Jung wrote a lot about this) and ritualistic expression, whether or not they get that from religion. Releasing ones emotions in a ritualistic setting has pr oven to be very cathartic.
