Why don't we learn about Paganism, Wicca and Satanism at School?
Well i dint know about your high schools and stuff where ever you're from. But at mine we don't learn about it. I'd never even heard of Wicca and Paganism a few months ago over the Internet. And I'm glad i did, now I'm buying books on it. (: that's the only way i can learn about it. ha ha. which is a big shame.
Because I'd love to understand these religions more and be taught by a teacher about them, and I'm sure other people would too.
I'm taking religion as a GCSE next year.
Do you think if i asked the school about it, they'd teach us?
Actually James D, i wanted to learn about it because I'm interested in other peoples religions, and i appreciate other peoples opinions.
tyvm.
Because Myopic Twits are afraid what Kids will do with that information.
Sorry I'm not usually that rude - but the comment is valid. People fear what they do not understand, fear that something different can be as valid as their own POV, fear that this will devalue the strength of their own. Never understand that fear does to people.
Because they are relatively small compared to Christianity and the other AbrahamICCeligions. They teach religion in schools because it has played a major role in history.
You want to learn about satanism? How to have sex with your sister or brother in a 6 sided star and, do rituals to a being of pure hate, and sell your soul to him?
There's no reason for any school to teach anything about Wicca, or any other religion outside of a course dedicated to spiritual faiths.
I hope to heaven the books you're buying aren't by Silver Ravenwolf, because many experienced Wiccans have serious problems with her "teachings".
This site has a book review section to help you pick useful reading material: http://wicca.timerift.net
And trying to teach a course on Wicca would be difficult, because Wicca is a religion with so many different forms and Traditions (it would be a bit like trying to teach a course about Christianity in general... possible, but it would leave out a lot of the details that make any specific Tradition of Wicca coherent and spiritually useful).
These days they don't really want to teach anything about religion in schools unless it is essential to know about it due to historical reasons for fear of a First Amendment violation suit. In the old days they would only teach about Xianity.
In schools they only teach the most essential stuff, such as; literacy, math, sciences. The also teach languages and arts which are not essential skills but make everybody smarter. Knowledge of pagan religions is of no use for most people.
No because all you will most likely learn about is Christianity at my school we had to take re but it was short course and it was Christianity only some took the full course but they still only did Christianity. I think a lot of people would get offended if you started learning about Wicca though because Christan's believe it is evil, yet i have read on the Internet about Wicca after i read a fictional book on it (it was fictional because it had real witches in it like magic that works but they followed the religion) and its the most peaceful religion so far that i have read about i was shocked i actually thought about seeing if there were vicunas near where i lived to find out more
By the way i just finished GCSE so my info isn't years old (I'm 16)
I don't know, actually. I'm a teen too and before Y!A I never heard of any of those. For those who said it's illegal to teach religion in the US unless it's a religious school; that's false. In my public school district, Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hiduism, and Buddhism are taught, because they are the five major world religions. We did have a brief overview of Paganism in history when we were learning about the origins of Christianity, but the textbook had maybe a paragraph about it.
There are chapters in the word of God, the Bible/KJV or NIV that talk alto about that subject. It is forbidden by Christians to consult a witch or anyone dealing in magic arts. That study is all about Satan's kingdom of darkness. Only Satan (the devil/Lucifer, disguises himself as an angel of light. And so do his agents or evil spirits. The only protection you have against him is Jesus Christ and His holy blood shed on the cross-to destroy Satan's works. Acts 13:10 says we are either children of God(Jesus) or the devil's.
For the same reasons you won't learn about shamanism and ancient European cultures in school: it's too much info for the general training high-schools offer. Also, many parents might disagree with any alternative religion (dead or otherwise) being tough to their children.
That's what college is for. If you study literature, culture, history etc you'll learn all about old religions (I do, and It's incredibly interesting).
This is why home education is a good idea. Schools just teach what the government tells them to, and whereas they do cover world religions, other groups are left out because school education has to be sketchy due to its inefficiency. So the reason is that there simply isn't time, because the teacher's attention is divided by thirty, learning has to take place at a slow pace in any case and it can't take advantage of enthusiasm and individual interest. The same problem applies in other areas, for instance in Geography you're unlikely to learn much about the economics of Laos or Welsh communities in Patagonia. It's the same problem.
Paganism isn't a religion. Its a large group of religions with radically different beliefs. Ever learn about Hinduism in school? Then you learned about a pagan religion.
There are thousands of different belief systems in the world. No school can teach all of them, or even more than a small handful, so high schools tend to focus on the largest and most influential.
Wicca and Satanism are both comparatively small. In addition, they're relatively new and haven't been overly influential in the grand scheme of things. That's why they aren't taught.
Because the public school system is bias and favors the popular religions allowing a negative outlook on us so they don't have Goths and individuals becoming role models and achievers.
.
I think that if you'd ask the school they would reject the idea because they only work 'scientifically' and are not aware of that some religious facts are scientifically explainable. Other than that, because of other matters like religions spreading propaganda and false information. There's a lot of disagreement and hate between religions and I don't think that schools want to get involved into all these matters.
There are religious schools, but they are mainly focused on just one religion and us ally blacken all other religions, especially Satanism, Wicca, Paganism and related, but I think that's purely because everyone is medicated about them.
