let me make this clear. may, I?
Wicca and Satanism are not the same. But many people (exp. Fundamentalists) say they are, and that they are both forms of pure evil. I want to write a report on how this belief system came to be, and how it is total nonsense. Make sense?
My goodness, I can't believe I got so many insults, when really every one of you posters read my posting incorrectly. I'm actually kind of irritated. Fuck me...
wow that's kind of tough. Wicca doesn't believe in Satan or have any kind of satanic figure in it... so Im not sure how you're going to get a comparison of the two?
Maybe if you come at it from the ignorant fundamentalist christian viewpoint that believes that Wicca is satanic witchcraft? But then you run the risk of looking stupid unless you make it very clear whose views that actually is.
Wicca and Satanism are NOT related to each other. They're totally different things. Wicca is a religion started in the early 20Th century by a British civil servant named Gerald Gardner and is concerned with honoring the Gods of our faith; Satanism is (a) an atheistic belief system begun by Anton LaVey, (b) an offshoot of LaVey's original system, or (b) a theistic system with its own Deity concepts and, as noted, nothing in common with Wiccan religious practices.
I'll leave it to the Satanists here on the board to fill you in further. But your section on "the involvement of Satanism and Wicca" is based on bad history. Chuck it.
ETA: All Right then... put the history parts first. Then state what each system actually involves. Then point out the differences. Then any similarities. Then address the various myths about both systems.
Just make sure you only include Atheistic Satanism, that is the only true Satanic religion. It also goes by "LaVeyan Satanism", but that term is incorrect.
And Satanism is not evil by the least bit, it's actually pretty down to earth. They don't even worship the devil, or any deity for that matter. Read up about it. Theistic Satanism, the fake one, is mostly for little kids.
Tough one. To consider the history of satanism you have to look at groups like the Hellfire Club from the 1800's as well as LaVey and the impact that Church of Satan has had on society, especially back in the 70's.
You would as lo need to know why they foll lowed "Satan" rather than the Christian God.
First: you need to realize that Wicca and Satanism are two very different things.
That being said, go to WitchVox's basics pages ( http://www.witchvox.com/_x.html?c=basics )
About.com ( http://paganwiccan.about.com/ ) for more info on Wicca
religious tolerance, org ( http://www.religioustolerance.org/) for info on both Satanism and Wicca
and the First Church of Satan ( http://www.churchofsatan.com/) for more info on Satanism.
I am a Wicca. I was former a member of the LDS Church and after that I was a fundamentalist Christian. So, I do know how they think. Their thinking is wrong, cause the think that we worship Satan.
Hey, I worship a Goddess (Artemis/Diana), cause as a Lesbian and former Transsexual she is very close to my own feelings.
If you want to write a book about Wicca and Paganism, it would be the best to take a look of our faith without prejudice.
It would be disingenuous to mention Satanism without directly implicating Christianity as the root cause, but I'm sure this is for a religious type of school so you may not want to rock the boat. For Wicca you should probably stick to their roots in Paganism.
BUT, your two topics do not belong in the same paper unless you are intentionally attempting to link the two belief systems. But that thesis will be pretty weak, you had better hope this is a religious school if this is for a grade and you intend to keep your topic.
Dude are you stupid or something. Wicca Don't believe in Satan or anybody like Satan. Wicca and Satan Have nothing in common, Beside Satan was made up by Christians they can keep him. Get your facts Right. Beside Witchcraft Have nothing to do with Satan. That just what the Christians believe because they are stupid.
1) Satanists more than likely know were the powers come from / the devil and his demons!
2) vicunas are deceived and think the powers comes from some were that it doesn't! It comes from the Devil and his demons!
Wow, Wiccans (and Pagans for that matter) do not believe in Satan. The main structure of Wicca is that you are personally responsible for everything you do, good or bad, and anything that you do to another will come back to you. You know, karmic justice. There is no evil vs good in Wicca, all are parts of the whole. The moon goes dark, and then comes around to full every 28 days. Without the dark there can be no light, but that does not mean that witches do evil magic. Really, the only thing connecting the two is the use of the pentagram, but even that is a stretch. Satanists use the pentagram upside down to represent the horns of the goat, Wiccans look at the pentagram as the 4 elements and spirit, surrounded by a circle used to show that all is connected. Again, that whole you are responsible for everything you touch stuff.
sorry, the only thing that they have in common is that they both show great care and respect for animals and children. and NEITHER believe in the devil.
add: it seems to me that a lot of people on here don't realize that Satanists don't believe in Satan.
I do see what you are asking...email me, I'll see what I can do to help you organize and point you in the right direction for some valid research material.
Perhaps you should have worded your question better. By the sounds of it, you make it out like Wicca and Satanism are one in the same. THIS is why you go to many rude answers.
You're lucky, I was just about to slap a face palm on this question.
I wouldn't bother trying to change the minds of fundamentalists. They're minds are set, and you can't move a brick wall when both are pushing from opposite sides. It just ain't gonna move. Just let them believe what they want, and in the end, they'll be the ones looking like a fool.
