Why do people not understand the difference between LaVeyan Satanism, Luciferianism,
I mean, there are huge differences between these three religions:
LaVeyan Satanism (the Church Of Satan) is atheistic and about empowering oneself with things such as fulfillment of the ego and the self-trans formative psychodrama of rituals.
Luciferianism (Theistic Satanism) worships Satan as a deity, and involves anti-Christian beliefs and self-aggrandizement.
Setianism (the Temple of Set) worships Set, the ancient Egyptian deity, and involves the belief that its practitioners will rise to godhood.
So, how is it that these all fall under the blanket term "devil-worshipers", when two of them don't even worship the Christian devil?
Maybe it's because all 3 of them will wind a person up in Hell when they leave this earth so the differences that you mention don't really matter in the long run.
Who wants to learn a lot about the different ways to be damned when they can learn about how to be saved instead?
1. Get saved
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
or
2. Stay blinded by Satan in one of the 3 belief systems you mention.
2 Corinthians 4:3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age (Satan) has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.
Generally speaking, only Christian fundamentalists are concerned with "devil-worshipers." Think about what you are asking: that one of the most UN-thinking and unlearned groups of people around have some nuanced thoughts.
Rob, honestly, can you articulate, without looking them up, the differences between the Society of Friends, the Christadelphians and Swedenborgianism?
Seriously, if they haven't studied it at all, and it has nothing to do with their religion, and doesn't even pique their curiosity, why would they know?
well i did not know the difference. i like one thing about this question. i shows the stupid bigotry of the Christians saying Jesus is the way to salvation even though they have no proof for this. i dint care that much but at least now i know if it comes up.
because didn't you know that anything that is non-christian is of the devil? that's one of the first fairy tales the christian religion teaches, else how would they keep the sheep in line?
Well for one thing many people struggle to comprehend the big six religions (that number in or close to half a billion in adherents, except Judaism but that's counted due to it's far reaching influence and that it is the founding religion of both Christianity and Islam, which are the two biggest religions in the world). If people struggle to grasp the finer points of all these religions (many struggle even to name them or know who founded them and when), what hope is there for the smaller religions?
Secondly, to many Christians (especially among the fundamentalists) anything that is not of God is of Satan, so any religion, no matter what it's called is satanic (most satanic of all being the ones that call themselves Christians but disagree with the doctrinal views of that particular group) most Christians save their strongest and most venomous condemnation for the religions that are closest in appearance but only slightly different to their own. Nevertheless to Christians the mindset is very Boolean, either you're either on the narrow road or the wide road, you're either gathering with Jesus or scattering, you're either saved or your lost, you're either following God or you're following Satan. It is the inescapable consequence of believing in a monotheistic religion.
Hope you now have a clearer insight into the christian mindset. Thanks BTW for the information on the different branches of Satanism.
Wow, some excellent and not so excellent answers here... Going to be tough to outdo either one.
Christianity (generally, not all of them are like this) doesn't exactly encourage its followers to educate themselves on other religions, unless it is to spread hate... How much justification do they need to hate something calling itself any of those three things? They need only mention the name. Suddenly, the whole idea of devil-worship becomes a sinister cabal of criminal sociopaths... Some of them might very well be, but I will not start with that assumption...
That being said, yes, the poster a bit above me who said that they hate the most on fellow Christians who have slightly different beliefs, yeah, some of them do... I think a lot of them have been getting better about that... Don't hear about so many burnings at the stake these days.
Why would anyone who isn't a Satanist give a flip? The only reason I can think of for a non-Satanist to study the nuances of other religions is if he planned to evangelize specifically to members of those religions.
Well my first thought would be, is people will not take the time to research as you have not. For the couple years I have been hanging out with Satanists/Occultist I can tell you I have yet to meet a Luciferian that con ciders himself a Satanist and for the most part Satanists especially theistic Satanists do not con cider Satan and Lucifer the same. I would say as others have, that Christians believe anything that is not of ''god'' is of Satan. Next thought comes to mind is Christians do not think for themselves they call themselves ''sheep" do you realize how dumb sheep are? Herd mental, have you ever watched sheep being herded? The ones in the center "mindlessly"protected by the ones on the out side being herded. And they know not that they are kept for food and clothing.
Yes 'some guy' it is sad but a good example of being mindless. Christians only know what they are taught to know. Most do not even know enough of their own beliefs. If they did some research in their own beliefs they would find that places like hell are man made or more so christian made. One who knows the bible for what is says would know that Satan is hardly spoken of in it, and only one time is Lucifer mentioned in the book.
for example look at DTTW's answer he quotes "the oldest lie ever told "ye shall be as gods" (Gen 3:5) but here is what god says in verse 22 of chap 3 he says "And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil" "the man is become as one of us" so god clearly CONFIRMS what the serpent said as true, he told no lie. The actual lie goes back to Gen 2:17 where god says "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." ..... did they die? NO so that was a lie meaning god actually lied before the serpent was even about. My point is just giving an example of how mindless christians can be they believe things the way they are taught. Thus being clouded and one sided an people are to lazy to test all things.
Rob I hope I was able to shed a little light for you. I think however you yourself need to have a better understanding, maybe do some more research an do not rely on what people tell you. Even your understanding lacks understanding, but questioning is a start.
