I think the appeal is that it's just something different, it's the flavor of the month. It uses psychological mambo-jumbo in a very marketing-effective way to attract people.

But the fact is that it was created by a science fiction writer who is quoted as saying roughly:
"The best way to make money is to create a religion"

Donald Shaw: The world is more than a frig gin dichotomy between sanity and everything else, troll.

In Christianity, God gets the glory, in Scientology, man takes the credit.

I read about Scientology, and basically, it's the worship and self love of yourself, and the ability to solve liefs problems on your own without the help of God or others. Celebrities are attracted to it because most of them already love themselves and have big egos, they love that they finally have a "so called" religion to do that with.

I heard it was a bet by Author L. Ron Hubbard that he could create a Religion that would be more accepted than Christianity. If that is the case...why not "enroll" actors/famous people into it in an effort to Woo the lowly uneducated general public into it as well. Isn't that what Hollywood did to our parents and grandparents by having Famous people shown smoking in movies...It was the "COOL" thing to do?

The west is a little ahead of the east in time.
we are quickly becoming atheist.
Scientology is a business that offers control
abuse, and all the fundamentals of religion in a buttered up (socially acceptable) documented form for the non-be liver

Celebs are attracted because it is the religion Du hour. Remember when Kabala was the big fad in Hollywood? Wait a year and see how many are becoming the next "cool" religion.

If you're starting to become attracted by Scientology, remember is was invented less than 60 years ago by a science fiction writer. That alone should bring up a red flag.

I've read that Scientology gives VIP treatment to celebrities, and a break from the pressures of fame.

If you believe in God (Christian, Judaism, Muslim) then you have what some think are restrictions on your actions (no adultery, no lying, etc.) but since Scientology is a 'religion' created by a man to prove he could create a religion and promotes being accountable only to yourself it is what alto of people want. They feel that it justifies and allows them to act and do what they want, no consequences for their actions.

Following is a simple description of what Scientology is:

Scientology is an applied religious philosophy. When I say "applied" I mean you actually use it in your life to change or improve existing conditions. This is different from a religious practice. All religions if you learn about them have a basic philosophy, but they also have certain dogma, rituals and observances, and a certain faith or belief is required. There is nothing wrong with this, but Scientology is not that kind of religion. It does not intrude on any ones faiths of beliefs particularly in the area of God , the Supreme Being, or the Infinite. This area is left totally up to the individual, which is why you can be a practicing Jew or Atheist, for example and still use and apply the principles of Scientology in your life. It does not conflict. If anything it will enhance your understanding of your chosen religious practice.
And it is only true for you according to your own observation and experience with it.
It is a non denominational religion . The dictionary definition that applies:
Religion: The spiritual or emotional attitude of one who recognizes the existence of superhuman power or powers.

The most basic principle of Scientology is that YOU are your own immortal soul, that this is not a "thing" you HAVE but what YOU actually are.
The whole purpose of Scientology is to increase an individuals understanding and awareness of himself. And thereby his native abilities .
When you do this the sphere and zone of his positive influence increases and moves outward into his life, his family ,his friends, his groups and mankind which he is part of.

How this result is achieved is the "technology" of Scientology, which was developed by L.Ron Hubbard after his extensive research and the discoveries he made, about the human spirit.
He completed his research before his death in 1986 and left all of his results and copyrights
to the Church of Scientology along with most of his considerable estate., when he died.

He published a book in 1951 to communicate the basic principles he discovered called: " Scientology The Fundementals of Thought"

There are currently over 8 million Scientologists in more that 150 countries world wide. This includes various celebrities not just Hollywood ones.
Hollywood media for some reason seems to be making a big deal out of it at the moment. But then they create celebrities just so they can knock them down. If they can't find a reason to do so, they invent one.
Bashing a celebrities religious choice seems to be in vogue at the moment. I'm sure they'll move on to something else soon.
Most of these celebs have been Scientologists for many years. It never
had any media attention until now. That's the media for you.
However we are a new religion, only 55 years old . This is the normal course for any new concept or idea, if you look through history.
Scientology is no exception. We don't take it personally.

The true story of Scientology as a religion goes like this:
1. A philosopher develop es a philosophy about life and death.
2. People find it interesting.
3. People find it works.
4. People pass it along to others.
5. It grows.
I guess this includes celebrities. Why not?
