Scientology is an organization based on a system of beliefs and practices that originated as philosophy in 1952 by American fiction author L. Ron Hubbard. "Scientology would be a study of knowledge," Hubbard stated that year. [1] In the 1965 edition of Scientology: The Fundamentals of Thought, he added, "Scientology is that branch of psychology which treats or (embraces) human ability. It is an extension of Dianetics which is in itself an extension of old-time faculty-psychology of 400 years ago." In 1960 L. Ron Hubbard redefined Scientology as: "a religion by its basic tenets, practice, historical background and by the definition of the word ?religion? itself." [2] In 1969 he wrote that "It is fundamentally an applied religious philosophy." [3] and it is claimed that this was for tax exempt qualifications. Tax exempt status was first granted in 1956 by the IRS, but was withdrawn in 1958. Since then court battles have emerged between the IRS and the Church of Scientology. There have been various times since 1956 where Scientology's tax exempt status was granted, only to be withdrawn again. On October 1, 1993 the U.S. Internal Revenue Service formally announced that the Church of Scientology and its myriad corporate entities had been granted tax exemption again.
Scientology has attracted controversy, criticism, and distrust throughout the world because of its closed nature and strong-arm tactics in handling critics. Scientology's principles have been characterized as pseudo scientific by scientists, medical doctors and psycho therapeutic practitioners. Lawmakers, including national governing bodies of several countries have characterized the Church as an unscrupulous commercial organization, citing harassment of critics and exploitation of its members. Because of these factors, Scientology has frequently been perceived as a cult and a pseudo religion.
The Church presents itself as a religious non-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of the human spirit and providing counseling and rehabilitation programs. Church spokespeople claim that Hubbard's teachings (called "technology" or "tech" in Scientology terminology) have saved them from addictions, arthritis, depression, learning disabilities, mental illness, cancer and other problems.
The number of Scientology adherents is disputed. The U.S. Census bureau has published a figure of 55,000 adherents in the United States.[4] The Church of Scientology itself claims between 9 million and 10 million followers.
I heard it claimed to be an alternative to psychology, but I also heard it called an alternative to main stream religion by religious fanatics. On a TV show, they explained it to be the belief that aliens were placed on our planet millions of years ago by other, meaner aliens and that our 'spirits' are the reincarnation of the aliens originally placed here.
The founder of the... whatever they call it is Elron Hubbard, a science fiction writer from the nineties, I believe. Your best bet to find out more would be to search Wikipedia Scientology.

I read diabetics and started really noticing the simple logical mistakes as well as spelling mistakes AFTER L.Ron Hubbard claimed to have perfect reasoning and memory skills.
If they are indeed the "perfect human minds" then why haven't they actually done anything for us. They just act.
Scientology is an applied religious philosophy. When I say "applied" I mean you actually use it in your life to change or improve existing conditions. This is different from a religious practice. All religions if you learn about them have a basic philosophy, but they also have certain dogma, rituals and observances, and a certain faith or belief is required. There is nothing wrong with this, but Scientology is not that kind of religion. It does not intrude on any ones faiths of beliefs particularly in the area of God , the Supreme Being, or the Infinite. This area is left totally up to the individual, which is why you can be a practicing Jew or Atheist, for example and still use and apply the principles of Scientology in your life. It does not conflict. If anything it will enhance your understanding of your chosen religious practice.
And it is only true for you according to your own observation and experience with it.
It is a non denominational religion . The dictionary definition that applies:
Religion: The spiritual or emotional attitude of one who recognizes the existence of superhuman power or powers.
The most basic principle of Scientology is that YOU are your own immortal soul, that this is not a "thing" you HAVE but what YOU actually are.
The whole purpose of Scientology is to increase an individuals understanding and awareness of himself. And thereby his native abilities .
When you do this the sphere and zone of his positive influence increases and moves outward into his life, his family ,his friends, his groups and mankind which he is part of.
How this result is achieved is the "technology" of Scientology, which was developed by L.Ron Hubbard after his extensive research and the discoveries he made, about the human spirit.
He published a book in 1951 to communicate the basic principles he discovered called: " Scientology The Fundementals of Thought"
