I don't think it's classified as a religion, but more as a way of life. And I think it's totally cracked out. It's really bizarre.

The cult of Joseph Smith, swindler and charlatan, who referred to his own followers as dupes. Joseph Smith born 1805 known to his neighbors as an untruthful, trouble making boy, given to pretended feats of magic and digging for buried treasure. At twenty-one was hauled into court as a disorderly person and impostor, pretended that an angel named Moroni sent by god revealed to him a sacred book written on gold plates, that he found in a stone box with a sword and breast plate. He pretended to have dictated the contents without unwrapping the plates, which only passages that possess any dignity are borrowings from the King James Bible, when pressured to produce these plates Smith said they were taken back to heaven. Smith was murdered in 1844 in an Illinois jail when he was thirty-nine being held for burning down the press of a newspaper that printed articles about him that he did?t care for.

Another false religion. There will be many more.
There will come someone that will unite all religions as one.
When this happens you had better be faithful to the one true God, because the end is near.

It is not a Religion.
It is a faith or a belief or a philosophy.

Being that I don't believe in any sort of higher power, I think it makes sense. The world had to come from somewhere.

It's a money making scam. The people that run it offer weird BS courses for high amounts of money. Also, to gain any recognition status, one has to pay for level advancement. While the people that run it are sharp scampers, I have to question the intelligence of anyone that buys into it. Especially when they go on Oprah and jump up and down on a couch to make a point.

I wouldn't call it a religion but more of a Hollywood Super Star Cult. I don't personally believe in it, I believe in Christianity, but if that is what the superstars are into these days then so be it, whatever floats their boats. I just fell bad for the people who look up to them (considering some movie stars are considered to be "role models"), I think science is good in many ways but with out God you have nothing, ! My opinion thought.

I believe it's a cult.

Several years ago, my best friend and I were paid by his mother to bring back his older brother from one of their compounds in Fl.. We rented a car and actually bought guns just in case we had a hard time getting in. While they did try to keep us out, we barged in and nabbed him and drove him back to NYC. If he were really serious about the Scientology deal we would have had to DE-program him. But it was mainly that he was getting himself into something he didn't understand because of his girlfriend at the time (same old story...).

The concept of it is so stupid. But with that said, it is very sad the cases of people going bankrupt to buy into this crock, dying at the "rehabilitation" centers, etc.

Also, need to ask John Travolta why he needs a jet when he can fly without one. He is OT8 or greater and that means he should be able to fly like peter pan :-)

Scientology came around during the 1950's but personally I think it's sad when people have to come up with new religions because they just can't find faith in anything else. If you look deeper it's actually a type a pagan but because they would hate to be called "witches" and the founder was a scientist not a witch.

It's as if they have pieced together several different religions and beliefs and changed them to suit their needs. Don't get me wrong alto of what they practice has merit and is believe able but it's as if they were reaching for an explanation to the world and why we are here so one man's beliefs became their explanation. Which is how Christianity came about so whatever works for them I guess. It's not just for Hollywood types though. They have just made it bigger. It's for anyone who wants to have faith in themselves vs trusting entirely in a Deity.

And just so you know Christianity was once considered a cult as well. It's our way of saying it's not right and teasing those who are different, much like calling a redhead carrot top, ya know in kindergarten. I think just because Tom Cruise believes doesn't discredit it anymore than when he was a Christian did it discredit Christ.

"It's not what you have faith in, it's that you have faith"

Its not a religion, its a science fiction club. Just like a Star Trek convention without the costumes. Oh wait, they have the SeaOrg uniforms, that right they do have costumes.

L. Ron Hubbard was a fake. The government knew it and tried to put a stop to him. The instruments he used were a farce. If you read his books and do a little research on the man you will have a great laugh. I mean, how can a box with whistles and bows, so to speak, tell you anything about your spiritual self, or anything else for that matter?

I think the religion of Scientology as a belief in engrams, Body Thetans, reincarnation and the intergalactic space lord Xenu to be a little strange. But that is their belief, and they should not be stopped or persecuted in anyway for such.

See what Scientologists believe from these neutral sites, wipedOAttp://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/scientology
http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/xenu

The Xenu one is particularly interesting.

The Cult of. opps sorry I meant the Church of Scientology is, imo, a dangerous vicious cult bent on indoctrinating/brainwashing you to slave you into their organisation while taking all your money.

It harms people, it harms their families, they hound and try to destroy critics, they will take any measure to achieve their aims including illegal ones. They lie to new adherents constantly in order to keep them there. They use 'hard-sell' recruiting tactics, and look for people in trouble as they are more susceptible to them.

Don't take my word for it though, do the research for yourself.

You can learn more about the Cult of Scientology here:
http://www.clambake.org ( same as http://www.xenu.net )

Or for videos go here:
http://www.xenutv.com

From there is a wealth of information including reports by Governments, Law Courts, Ex-scientologists, Scientific Reviews, Published Books, and much much more.

Here are the court files:
http://www.clambake.org/archive/CourtFiles/

Here is the UK Govt. Investigation, the Foster Report:
http://www.xenu.net/archive/audit/foster01.html

Here are whole books written mainly by ex-members, the authors have posted them for anyone to read:
http://www.clambake.org/archive/books/

Here is the offical site from the Church for comparison.

Honestly it is ridiculous! What the heck kind of religion has only been around for some 50-60 some odd years?? Every other religion has been around for centuries or even millenniums. Those people need to get and clue and actually find out what the word religion means. I just don't think it has much of a belief structure. In Scientology no one is asked to accept anything as belief or on faith. It has no meaning, the only thing they believe in is themselves, and i mean that's fine, but its not a religion.

I am a Scientologist, it IS a religion - we were finally recognized in 1991 by the IRS as a religion...Scientology is just as valid as any other religion, if not more so
