Default If Scientology was created 5,000 years ago, do you think it would have been as popula

You say Scientology makes no sense. If Chrisiantiy was created just 50 years ago ( like Scientology) wouldn't a "god" make absolutely no sense as well?

No. Christianity appealed to the poor and disenfranchised, Scientology appeals to the rich and famous.

If Constantine had a dream about a spaceship instead of a cross we'd be up to our ears in them.

kind of hard to create a religion that is biased on stories of aliens, spaceships, and electrical machines that help cure you 5,000 years ago.

Have you even looked at Scientology? Lord Xenu packing a bunch of frozen aliens into intergalactic DC-8s and dropping them next to volcanoes which he then nuked? It makes no sense whatsoever. And it couldn't have been invented 5000 years ago; they use those E-Meters as one of the main parts of Scientology. I don't think they used electricity back then.

I dint see how that could happen. Scientology is a collection of exercises and teachings gathered from many sources which wouldn't exist then. Altho a decent non-denominational religion showing up 5000 years ago might have been nice.

It couldn't have been around that long ago. A lack of SCIENCE for one thing, but also because people as a whole were different then, and none of them would have understood the basic precepts. The idea of using your mind to heal yourself, in a world where people were burying toenails under mushrooms by the full moon to get rid of a wart - the two ways of thinking are at totally different ends of the spectrum.
No, your question is moot, because it just isn't possible.

Yeah it probably would have been. I mean how hard could it be to see a meteorite fall and think...Aliens which would then have translated to "The Gods". Espeically 5000 years ago when agriculture was brand new. So the answer is yes.

Scientology was created by science fiction author, L. Ron Hubbard, in the 20Th century.

I do not think Scientology would be very popular, 5,000 years ago, because people knew very little about science and science fiction did not exist at that time.

5,000 years ago, people worshiped gods that controlled the earth and made idols of them.

This is a 20Th century invention. I doubt that it could have existed much before the Industrial Revolution. People would have no foundation on which to build or understand it.

Even as a hypothesis this question makes no sense.
Scientology was never "created" it emerged in this century after many years of research by Hubbard into sacred knowledge that had existed for more than 10,000 years. It was combined with new discoveries he made about the nature of the human spirit.
As a result of this he was able to develop a workable path that anyone could travel to reach higher states of spiritual existence and understanding.
This is the underlying goal or hope of all religions. This was the teachings of Buddha, Moses, Jesus, Mohammed... they were all teachers ( Messiahs) with a message for mankind, that there was something better.
Whether a religion is "popular" or not, isn't the point.
How well it works and helps mankind to achieve spiritual freedom is the point.
Scientology could not have been discovered , researched and developed 5000 years ago. The necessary scientific and technological advances did not occur until the last century.

The knowledge and religious philosophy that Scientology is based on has been in existence probably since the beginning of time, but, as I said earlier, was first recorded in the East in written form 10,000 years ago.

If you are looking for popularity, almost two thirds of the world's population in the East were practicing some form of diatomic/buddhist religion 2000 years ago when Christianity first came into being in the Middle East and spread into the WEST.

Scientology is still a fairly new concept to people these days and most people fear change... Do you know what happened to Galileo when he said the world wasn't flat but spherical... they excommunicated his ass.
