Default Why do people fall for cults like scientology?

Are they looking for something extra in their life or are they just retarded?
@Xenu Works - I'm sorry you felt you had to delete your answer. I didn't mean to be insulting. There must be something to it if you actually believe it. I just find the whole thing so unbelievable.

Because some folks want to believe so badly. They'll do anything.

Same reason they fall for any other religion including Christianity.

Who knows why people are drawn to any one certain religion. I can't only speak for myself but I was raised in the Baptist Church, broke away from the church and God for awhile but ended up back where I belong. I know nothing else and really have no desire to.

Due to Ignorance.

The Holy Quran advises us in 017.036 And pursue not that of which thou hast no knowledge; for surely the hearing, or the sight, the heart all of those shall be questioned of.

Cause it's new nonsense to believe in. Verses the 1,000's of years old cults. Anyone who bothers taking a look at what they say ... supposedly believe. Cant help but know those folks are bat chit crazy and living in a dream world. So I guess they try to find something that gives them some answers to the big questions.

And they meet up with a scam artist like the guy who created Scientology. Evidently the guy's every bit as good at conning people as the faith healers and snake oil Xian cult priests sanity is known for. He used the word science in the name of the cult. Implying that it unlike the primitive religious nonsense in the world ... is based on scientific/factual evidence.

People need/want to believe in something I guess. Even if it's a ridiculous scam ... gives them something to lean on.

Some people are a pushover for a good, dishonest salesman. Fortunately most salesmen are honest.
