I spent one week with them in 1979. I thought I might try their introductory 'self-improvement' course. They had me spend 3 to 4 hours a day with them for 5 days. I was excited and pumped and ready for another class the next week, and the only thing that prevented me from doing so was I was broke at the time.
The Scientologists had a deal they'd offer to some of the students in their center where if they distributed a lot of their multiple-guess personality tests (people would fill it out, and mail it in to them, and they'd score it and call you for an appointment to come in), they'd let you work off your bills to them in that way.
But . . .
Over the weekend I was in school and I stopped by the school library to see if there were any books about Scientology. What I found persuaded me not to return.
