Default Why Is There So Much Controversy Of The Religion Scientology?

I first heard of this Religion when I went to Time Square New York(2 years ago), a Scintologists women approach me and the people i was with and brought as to some kind of Church of Scientology near by.

To be honest it seem interesting, but when I'd look up the religion on the Internet later on; it seem like a bunch of people hated it and there was some kind of scam.

But what i don't get is why A LOT of people don't like it, and i heard of all kinds of religions committing scams.

Can somebody help me understand it more?

It's a scam to get people's money, and its practices have gotten people killed.

Not like other religions... (sarcasm)

In the Kalama Sutra, Buddha says.
Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it..
Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.
Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.
Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.

But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.

It is nothing more than a scam dressed up as a religion. Their only mandate is to remove as much money from you as possible in order for you to be "cleared". But beware, it takes much bucks and years to obtain that state.

Needless to say, they tend to concentrate on the rich, famous with unlimited funds to support them.

It was the creation of a bad science fiction writer named L Ron Hubbard. At least one of his books has been made into a bad science fiction movie starring Jon Travolta in alien drag.

L Ron was a noted huckster - i.e. presenting a shabby return on ones investment. There is a strong belief among many who have studied some of his history that Scientology was founded as a tax dodge to starting raking in bucks for a false religion and not have to send the money to the IRS.

There are horror stories from the latter part of the 20Th century in which Scientologists in California were accused of placing poisonous snakes in the mailboxes of those who publicly criticized the religion it had become. When folks investigated some of the techniques used by Scientologists, it turned out to be cheap galvanometers and a biofeedback system, for which you paid hundreds of dollars per "treatment."

The story of the visiting alien Xenu is the kind of thing L Ron would write as a sci-fie story, but this time he turned it into something far more profitable - for him. He's deceased now, but his fantasy religion lives on.

read this site on Scientology ~
http://www.alwaysbeready.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=36&It emid=54

Better yet, confess your sins to God, truly sorry for offending His love for you, and ask His forgiveness. He will! Turn from your sins proving your repentance is real, in faith trusting Jesus took the punishment on a cross your sins deserved. He delights in forgiving all who ask, as often as they ask, even empowering you with His Holy Spirit to do what He commands. Otherwise, if you lose eternal life, it will have been by your own choosing. He made the way for your sins to be forgiven.

Read how the Bible says to be right with God, Matthew 4:17; Luke 24:46-47; Romans 2:4-5; Romans 3:23-24; James 2:10; Hebrews 9:27; 1 John 1:8-9; Romans 5:8; Romans 10:9-10; Romans 10:13; Ephesians 2:8-9; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 Peter 3:18; John 3:36; 1 John 5:11-13
So then, each of us will give an account of them self to God. Romans 14:12

I do not know how much you read about it already (like that is was a scam by a 3rd rate science fiction author to make money, claiming that everyone on this planet are controlled by alien spirits which are ultimately responsible for every single bad thing that happens to you) so perhaps I could skip all that, to focus on the essential of your question: why the hate.

Well, Scientology is *evil*. The principle is that they will approach you, listen to you like an AA counselor listen to a recovering alcoholic, and discuss your problems (let's face it, everyone has some little problems and issue) and offer help. They will have you attend some discussion group and seminars (where existing cytologistsST's planted, posing as people enthusiast about being helped in that way, or as people who were *really really* helped by their technique), and interestingly they will discover more little problems they can help you with, except this time it will cost you a little. And the a little more. Then they brainwash you.
And if you try to leave, you may 'mysteriously' disappear. Google "murder Scientology" and see how many hits you get.

The problem is that they are slick, pay some lawyers very well, and will sue the pants off anyone who says anything against them, so evidences are hard to come by to convict them.

They are DANGEROUS.

4Chan. Plain and simple. Scientology was more or less ignored by the mainstream until 4Chan decided to troll them.

You see, somebody posted a video to YouTube, in which Tom Cruise was acting all insane:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFBZ_uAbxS0

In it, Tom says that only he and his fellow $colons can help others at the scene of car collisions.

Co$ had it pulled from YouTube for "copyright reasons."

/b/ was angry, and so decided to declare "war" on $Scientology for "Luz killing."

Later, some non-mainstream anti-$colons got on-board, and told us that they charge monies for everything. Anonymous believes that information is free (in both the lib re and gratis fashions).

Hence, "Operation Chanology."

The problem with the Internet for information is that you're gonna get lots of opinions from those who have only read it on the Internet. In other words, it's opinions. These days, it is easier to accept Antone's opinion rather than get the data directly from source.

Now, here's an interesting view ... in this category, you have the same situation coming up where certain groups who are financially tied up in an opposing field or alternate handling for a problem, see the other as a threat. Scientology has this with Big Pharma and Psychiatry as these two institutions have billions of $ at stake in creating disorders and marketing drugs for them. Scientology has been exposing the fraud behind these methods since 1969 when Dr Thomas Szasz, Psychiatrist Emeritus, and the Church co-founded Citizen's Commission on Human Rights to expose the abuse in the field of mental health. Back then it was pretty much about stopping electroshock treatments and lobotomies and other psycho surgeries. Then, Psychiatry moved out of the surgery line into the drug line (with Big Pharma claiming that their drugs correct chemical imbalances in the brain, when the only way you can test chemicals in the brain is after death. There is no test that shows chemical imbalances), and with the introduction of drug ads on TV and mags, started heavily marketing drugs as solutions for problems of life. You've seen the Congressional investigations and huge fines lately, I'm sure, on drug companies for Miss-marketing drugs, and for failing to reveal all test data on drug trials, where the all data showed it was harmful and these same companies hid that from the FDA, who had to approve them. Some have been caught more than once. The more CCHR exposes, the more attacks you'll see on the Internet, like what you read, about Scientology. People even have admitted to be paid by Big Pharma and Psychiatric agencies to come on-line and "plant" false data and make Scientology look controversial. This "planting" isn't new. It includes slurs on management and the founder and ex-cytologists who have been paid to give false testimony. It started with the publishing of Dianetics in 1950 and continues to this day (confirmed through use of the Freedom of Information Act). Despite all of this there is a great public demand for Scientology and these vested - financial ties - interests hate it. Why? When someone in Scientology uses the principles, they have self restored, and are less inclined to comply with learned helplessness that Psychiatry promotes.

I realize this is long, but it's an answer to your question. The cites for all are in the links noted in source.

Scientology is not alone in being attacked. Psychiatry has long planned to eradicate religion as a source of solace or help for mankind in times of distress and trouble. See link below for the document that exposes that
(courtesy of CCHR). So, you'll see heavy attacks on all religions in this forum.

There is never any rationality about what people decide to hate , and dislike is often created deliberately and not based on any real personal experience or observation., Most controversy is also created deliberately out of nothing, for the sake of selling newspapers or media programs or Internet sites (advertising) . Or to confuse or misdirect your attention from what is really going on which serves a few with vested interests in keeping you unaware and misinformed.

If something seems interesting to you then it is probably because it is interesting. (pretty simple)

That said, here?s a factual description of the Scientology religion for you:
(From a Scientologist who has studied and practiced this religion for over 38 years):

Definition:
The term Scientology is taken from the Latin word "SCIO" : which means, in the fullest sense of the word, "knowing", and the Greek word "LOGOS" which simply means "study of".

The subject of Scientology is further defined as :

"the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, universes and other life. "

Scientology is a new religion. It is an applied religious philosophy. By ?applied? is meant that it is for use in life and living. You actually use it in your day to day life to change and improve existing conditions. It is a practical religion.
All religions if you study them have a basic philosophy, but they also have certain dogma, rituals and observances and a certain faith or belief is required. There is nothing wrong with this , but Scientology is not that kind of religion. It does acknowledge the principle of God or the Supreme Being but does not try to define or describe this principle, leaving it up to the individual.
It is also not a messianic religion. This means there is no worship of prophets or messiahs or gods. It is not belief or faith based. In Scientology a truth is true for you according to your own observation and experience .
The dictionary definition that applies:

Religion: The spiritual or emotional attitude of one who recognizes the existence of superhuman power or powers.

The most basic principle of Scientology is that YOU are your own immortal soul, that this is not a thing you have but what YOU actually are.
Scientology believes or considers that Man is basically good. This is different from many religions that promote that he his naively evil or bad unless ?made? good.

The whole purpose of Scientology knowledge application and procedure is to increase an individual?s understanding and awareness of himself as a spiritual being and to rehabilitate his native abilities and potential.
When you do this the sphere and zones of his positive influence increase and move outward into his life , his family and friends, his groups and Mankind of which he is part .

How this result is achieved is the ?technology? of Scientology, which was developed by L Ron Hubbard from discoveries he made after extensive research into the field of the mind and the human spirit.
Some of this knowledge was already existing in the sacred lore of ancient texts like the Veda or Vedic Hymns going back 10,000 years. New and additional discoveries were made about the nature of the human spirit and fully recorded and codified .
Scientology?s closest spiritual ties with any other religion are with Orthodox (Hinayana ) Buddhism with which it shares an historical lineage. But even here the relationship is based mainly on friendship and the recognition of the being as a spirit rather than any organizational ties.

L.Ron Hubbard published 18 basic books from 1950 to 1955 to fully communicate the basic principles of Scientology, the path of his research and the spiritual technology that he developed from this.
He completed all his research before his death in 1986 and left all his materials and copyrights to the Church of Scientology?s Religious Technology Centre along with most of his personal estate when he died.

The Church of Scientology is currently established Ind operating internationally in over 160 countries world wide. However it is still a new religion, less than 60 years old.
The true story of Scientology as a religion goes like this:
1. A philosopher develop es a philosophy about life and death.
2. People find it interesting.
3. People find it works.
4. People pass it along to others.
5. It grows.

This is just an overview.
L.Ron Hubbard explained fully the theology and technologies of Scientology in more than 500,000 pages of writings, including dozens of books and over 4,000 tape recorded public lectures.

You can also go to WNW.scientology.org for a much more detailed description of this religion.
Or go to your local library Self Help section for books on Scientology
