Default What kind of people typically fall prey to predatory cults like Scientology, JW?s and

It seems like they target people who think they are different from other people. From what I know of Scientology, it uses tactics designed to exploit people who think they have some kind of hidden ability inside themselves. JW?s and the Mormons have made dogma designed to appeal to people who think they are holier, more pious and more virtuous than other people, right? What do you think?

People who are lost, or looking for something to fill a void in their life.

I wouldn't say stupid people, because even cults can crack intelligent folk.

Those who don't believe, will believe anything.

An open mind is like an open door . . . it lets the bugs in.

.

"Fall Prey"?

Your supposition is way off.

Those who want the freedom that comes with knowledge, look for a faith that goes out of their way to share it.

Gullible ones mostly, easy prey for the intelligent unbelievers that run the cults, this however is the common fate of all believers regardless of the name the cult assumes

People who don't believe in REAL CHRISTIANS ARE PART OF SATAN'S CULT

PERIOD!!

I am getting tired of people saying we are part of a cult. No wonder God will put an end to the current system of things and Satan's followers soon!!

Good marketing can pull almost anyone in. Their key to the strategy is to not tell the new meat the whole truth. For example Mormons don't advertise that their god is an alien from the planet Kolob. That comes later when they are already brainwashed.

No one particular group is "targeted". We would hope that EVERYONE would hear and accept the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The proper question would be, what groups of people typically refuse to not even listen to what Mormons actually believe, but instead rejoice in their ignorance, wallow in lies and deceit.

I think you just described yourself. I've read many of your criticisms of religion and you just know better than other people. You are too smart to fall for organized religion and you know it.

Religious intolerance is usually a symptom of ignorance and ones failure to actually find out what it is they are criticizing. There's no excuse for it really, unless one is intent on the desire to see a future without hope or faith that we can make the world a better place for all of us (even the intolerant).

I don't have more than slight experience with JWs and Mormons, but Scientology (and most cults in history) also tend to try to recruit people in hard times -- post 9/11, for instance -- or having personal problems, and convince them they're the only thing that can help. Desperate people are more willing to believe in unlikely things, it's a lack of any better hope thing. And you're right, they like to get the idealistic college student type who wants to do something "meaningful" with their life, too.

I believe a fair number of Mormons are actually born and raised as such.

Wrong.

Predatory cult? Put up or shut up, my dear. The people whose lives are blessed by Jesus within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do not hate you. If anything, we love you and pity you for the distress we seem to be causing you, however inadvertently.

I think you should definitely get professional help for your eschatohierophobia. You'll be much happier, and you might even become a Christian. "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another."

Some people are just looking to join a group that makes them feel warm and fuzzy all over. They open their brain and let all their reasoning abilities out.

You forgot Islam, which is the most dangerous religion in the world.

Scientology goes after the rich.

JW's.......well, I'll let them speak for themselves here.

Mormons: We encourage people to read the Book of Mormon and then ask God if it is true. Pretty cunning isn't it.
