Where does it anywhere say anything about Islam? Either in my question or in the article? Just who do you think is defending Islam? The question was asked in the Politics and Government section for a reason - namely under what circumstances should governments have the political right to ban organizations whether they are religious, political, social, cultural or even criminal if they are judged to be doing citizens harm.
CALLUM W,
How can a religion which developed out of the Middle East way back when be considered "indigenous" to anywhere. The nearest to an indigenous religion still surviving in the UK is probably Druidism and that was reinvented in the C19Th by Victorian gentleman.
ME,
You may be a top contributor but you obviously did not get it for intelligence, English comprehension, social awareness or religious tolerance. I ask you, as I asked Crow, where in my question or anywhere in the article I cited is any mention of Islam? Just who do you think is defending Islam? By the way, "council estates" are now few and far between. Most are now administered by housing associations and your picture of life in such area is a distortion of reality to say the least. And you have not answered my question.
Only if they ban all the other religions too. All this ban talk you see bandied about on this forum, so ghastly. They're easy to ignore if you want to, unless like Lord Denning you deal with 2 court cases concerning them in the same day.
edit: Overthrow AND subvert? its gonna be a busy day for them...
Scientology isn't actually recognized as a religion in the UK, it isn't registered with the Charities commission as such and so is an organization. Should it be banned? Not really I don't think they do any harm, gormless people are parted with their money all the time.
Yes they should, they are very evil. But it will not happen here, at the most all our half arsed governments will do is take away their charitable status. That will be a good start.
I'm no supporter of Scientology, but I think that it's a bit rich, a German Minister saying this should be banned because it was ?unconstitutional, inhuman and dangerous?. The EU (inc Germany and France) is trying to do exactly that to Britain right now, so let's call a few pot kettles black shall we? We should start by banning the EU unelected, unconstitutional, inhuman and dangerous back-stabbers from Brussels.
No... you can't force people to believe or not to believe.
I don't think they go round murdering people... any abuses they do commit seem pretty typical for any religion.
Quote from the article: "It would see the better, cleverer and stronger prevail over the weaker. That does not tally with our free democratic society." Wow! What kind of democracy do you guys have over there? In the US, "the better, cleverer and stronger prevail over the weaker" IS 'democracy'.
As much as I hate to hear libertarian noises from the hole in my face, I have to stand firm on belief as something beyond regulation, no matter how absurd, however, I suppose if you can successfully argue Scientology is not a religion (which is a reasonable argument), you could then maybe ban it as some kind of subversive party like the Nazis for instance.
Strange this, that Scientology has got such a hold. As a sci fie fan I have read many books by the author who founded the Scientology cult, and none has persuaded me towards that philosophy.
I think the article is somewhat misleading when it says it destroys its followers. Tom Cruise and other Hollywood stars have not suffered by being members, any more than Madonna has suffered for her Cabal membership.
They are just another cult, let them do what they believe in, while the rest of us get on with life.
Although its not recognized as a religion in the UK I do believe its an extreme creepy and odd sect with some very very questionable views. The financial extortion part of their operations makes me uneasy too.
So ban Scientology, a religion that has done nothing against the British people and majority of its members in the UK are employed and paying taxes?
But keep Islam a religion that has blown up buses and trains and hon our kills women, openly trying to overthrow the government and most of its members are either criminals or living in council estates and on the dole?
No. And the article is highly you refer to is highly misleading. Scientology doesn't destroy the lives of its followers. I have been a Scientologist for 30 years and my feeling is that Scientology has enriched my life. Also, our Church campaigns relentlessly for human rights for everyone. Not just the Christian Democrats in Germany - unlike the particular minister being interviewed.
Are you sure this isn't some kind of APRIL FOOL joke . LOL!
This guy sounds like a complete nutter to me. He's practically frothing at the mouth with wild allegations that are totally false and unfounded. He wants to exterminate a minority religion.
These are people he's talking about.
If he's NOT a JOKE then he's a frightening echo of the THIRD REICH....
What else has he got in mind for Scientologists after he's banned their religion?
Anyway I don't think the British fought and finally won WW ll to liberate the peoples of Europe from Germany's dictatorship and tyranny and religious persecution to now be listening to and considering emulating more of the same
in 2010 from Germany. This is pure insanity.
