Default What are the origins and main differences between Sunni and Shi'ah Islam?

I'm finding this quite difficult, got it set for work and I have to write as much as I can on this, could anyone provide me with any information? Etc.

The split began as a fight over who was to succeed Muhammed as the leader of Islam after his death. And they've been fighting ever since.

in theory every religion has God's delegated authority, like the pope in catholic church and rabbis in Judaism. In Islam there is no such thing, all u have to do is follow one book, Quran! Unfortunately Shina sect was a new sect that started and they established a hierarchy, ayatollahs etc! So this is the problem!
