Default whey are most Philippines Catholic + not Buddhist or Shintos?

i know that in some parts of the Philippines there are mostly Moslem's - but whey is in the rest of the country the overwhelming majority Christians ?

The Philippines was ruled by Spain for over 500 years. There is heavily Spanish influence--from the culture, language, religion, etc.

the Spaniards conquered the country....the Filipinos
revered the Spaniards and mimic ed them in almost every way...

Because Spain colonized it almost 500 years ago and brought Catholicism to the Filipinos. Catholicism's been there almost as long as it has been in America.

Well, the islands themselves are named for Philip II of Spain.

Spain colonized the islands in the 16Th century, and missionaries set up shop to convert the locals. In a couple of hundred years, they did a pretty good job of making most of the population Catholic.
