Actually, while DNA evidence has pr oven the theory to be highly unlikely, it is believed that one of the lost tribes of Israel found its way to Japan. Some of this is believed to be reflected in Japanese culture, including some aspects of Shintoism. These include:
1. Fringes on a prayer shawl. In Buddhism, the robes are usually colored, but Shinto Priests have white robes with fringes at the corner. Just like a Jewish Tallit. There are other similarities in dress with ancient Israelites, such as a sash around the waist and the cap on their heads.
2. The Israelite Tabernacle and a Basic Shinto shrine highly similar layouts. There are only a few deviations between the two.
3. Salt is seen as a purifying substance. Both share this belief.
There are other similarities as well. Both Judaism and Shinto shrines do not have idols, like the Buddhists do. The both have objects which represent divinity, but do not regard these objects as G-D's. Also, there is a similarity between some Japanese words and some ancient Hebrew words. Check out the words behind the story of the G-Des Amaterasu leaving the cave, and you might find it a little eerie.
