Yes, I know what Shintoism is. No, it's not compatible with Christianity. The two make mutually exclusive truth claims. At most, only one can be right.

Not really. Shinto is animist, and encompasses the belief in nature spirits or "Jami" in trees, water, wind, etc. It is actually a bit like shamanism or other Native American religions, but Christianity would see it as idolatrous or pagan.

as a christian of 47 years with study of a number of other religions , not specifically Shintoism, i can still say that they are not compatible. WHY? because Jesus said >Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comet unto the Father, but by me. The Christian faith is one of three major religions that are exclusive. This means that its truth claims are NOT compatible with other religious systems. Shintoism simply does not agree with these truth claims nor can it be made to fit in with the Judeo/ christian cosmology, cosmogony and theology.

Certainly. Shinto acknowledges the Gods of other religions as just another Kami so there is no prohibition in belonging to both Shinto and something else. Although the second religion of most Shintoists is Buddhism, some have Christianity as a second or third religion.

The monotheistic churches would like for all that don't belong to either convert or die, but that doesn't have anything to do with religion--it's just the churches' quest for power and control for their leaders.
