There are about as many Kami as there are natural objects in the universe. The common phrase "8 million Kami" means that there are an astronomically large but finite number of Kami. In Shinto there is no separation between nature, humanity, and Kami. The Aitsudomoe, a logo associated with Shinto shrines) symbolizes this. Another way to say this is "nature and humanity are united thorough the Kami".
