If you are so interested in Japanese and their culture, don't you want to include their religion in your life?

Shinto is more of a "doing" then a "believing". So no, but also yes, if he wants to use a lot of Japanese cultural things in his life. Holidays and such.

First, you don't *have* to convert to anything.

Second, just because someone is Japanese doesn't mean they belong to a particular religion. You might fall in love with a Japanese Jew, or Christian, or atheist. In any case, you don't have convert regardless of what your husband or wife believes.

You can marry a Japanese provided you both are prepared to live without any religion. Humanity must be your religion.

Only if he is Shinto.
Research his family history.
Are there Ainu ancestors on either Mother Son or Papa Son bloodline?
If so, according to folk lore, you will be very happy and blessed.

Shinto isn't a religion you "convert" to. If you live your life according to Shinto tenets, you are Shintoist. Shinto holds that the gods of other religions are just another Kami, so it's no problem to worship them.

Unlike Western religions, Shinto doesn't see the world in just black and white. Instead there are many co lours and shades of gray.
