Default Is is possible to be in a Shinto wedding even if you aren't Shinto to begin with?

My boyfriend and I would like to be married in Japan but we don't really know what our options are. We'd really like a Shinto wedding, but we don't practice Shintoism. Does anyone know if this can happen?

I don't know if you can have it in Japan but this link discusses an American couple that had a Shinto wedding ceremony in New York and provides an email address--not sure if it works or not as the article appears to be a little old--that you can contact someone about if you are interested in having a Shinto ceremony.

This link below has few other ceremonies too

Contact the American embassy in Japan first and see what it takes to get married there first. Tell them what you wanna do and they'll tell you how plausible it is. Then from there, they may be able to give you information for planning. Just call and ask, the worst that could happen is that they tell you can't have that type of wedding there, but maybe here in the US.
Good Luck!

I have never heard of people having a Shinto wedding who do not practice. Of course, being foreigners you would be under extra scrutiny as to your real intentions. Also realize that a Shinto ceremony is full of symbolism and rituals, which would require extensive studying on your part. Are you studying Japanese? Not to mention the kimonos you would have to rent, and you must learn to walk gracefully. I can only imagine what it costs to rent the kimonos as well (starting at several thousand US dollars).
If you re actually serious about this, I suggest doing a lot more research and then contacting a shrine.
If you re simply interested in Japan, consider taking your honeymoon here.
PS: Although there are western-style weddings in Japan, I think you would be highly disappointed- they re fake replicas of the real thing.
