The Lil Shinto, follows the way of many gods and is more ritual in practice than Islam. Shinto is a Japanese thing. It's nowhere near any other religion, totally different as it also incorporates spiritual practices derived from many local and regional prehistoric traditions.
Islam believes in Allah
Shintoism is believing in many gods , such as Buddha and other earthly beings, most people in japan set up their own shrines in their gardens and homes
Everything. I can scarcely think of two more dissimilar religions. Islam believes in a single all powerful God, and all must be in submission to his will. Shinto in an animistic faith where everything is animated by a Jami, a life force. While there is some nod given to Kamisama (Lord Kami or Chief Kami), its only the top of a hierarchy and not the absolutely end all and be all of the spirit world. Islam encouraged dualistic thinking, right, wrong, good, evil, paradise or hell, with no scope for Grey areas. Shinto is much more fluid in the thinking it encourages, allowing adherents to acknowledge the reality of the shades of Grey that are are our world.
Shinto is an indigenous (to Japan) formalized animistic/shamanic religion which recognizes Kami or spirits as being ubiquitous. It has similarities with the Tibetan Bon religion which is also shamanic and who's combination with Buddhism makes Vajrayana so very different from what the Buddha originally taught.
Islam's roots are pagan and all pagan practices are derived from older shamanic traditions. Islam has tried to hide and distance it's pagan origins but most every religious scholar - except Muslims - knows the real truth about it. The Kaaba was a focus of pagan ritual adoration and the black meteorite currently revered by Muslims was but one of hundreds of pagan ritual items there. Islam is a mixture of legends lifted from the Jews and Christians of that time combined with indigenous Arab paganism.
So Islam and Shinto are quite different in their manifestations today but as far as origins go, they are (regional cultural differences aside) not so very dissimilar.
There is no similarity whatsoever, they are in direct opposition to one and other. Shinto is a form of faith in Ancestors and Elemental energies which directly affect our lives in the present, from the past and present, and give roads into future material and spiritual fulfillment.
Islam is a monotheistic faith, like Judaism and , which believes in a One true God and submission to that Being.
Reality is somewhere between these extremes and is engaged in by walking the Path of Mind fullness, Awareness and Respect for all living and non material beings
