Default Questions about Shinto?

I asked this before in the Spirituality section, but I got some pretty silly answers.. I figured some of the Japanese people here could help me?

-Can I be a Shintoist if I live in Australia?
-Are there any Shinto shrines in South Australia?
-What do I need to make a Katina?
-Is there any 'right' way to be a Shintoist? (I already know about Jami, origami, etc)

S's?

You can never be a Shito until you participate in the Kanamara Festival!

Simply speaking, Japanese Shinto is totally different from western religion such as Judaism, Christianity, Islam and/or Buddhism.

It's rather similar to Greek myths about normative theme in a sense.
It is Japanese local polytheism for living life and the concept has no demand to expand its propagation to global wide.

If you declare that you are Shintoist, you will be without any contract, baptism or initiation. There is no membership or license card anyway.

I don't think Australia has Shinto shrine because of no demand.

You must know that Shinto is not such religion as you are having now.
Once you think you are Shintoist, that is the right way to be. Procedure has no meaning anyway. Kamidana neither.

You'll be able to be a Shintoist if you study and practice Shinto.

-Are there any Shinto shrines in South Australia?
-What do I need to make a Katina?
In Japan, every single Tojo (Karate, Judo, Kendo, Sumo... hall) has their own Katina. "A KatinaNas a small shrine."
There are many Budo dojo in South Australia, right? Go there for the answer.

-Is there any 'right' way to be a Shintoist?
Again, you should study and pracitice Shinto. By the way, it's very difficult for us to be a Shinto priest.

It doesn't matter where you are.
Also, Kamidana are usually bought from a store that sells them. Doing good things for others or for anything is considered to be the best way to thank God and make him happy. Although in Japanese religion, God is not he or she. I don't think anybody who practices Shinto would mind if you make any Kamidana even if it doesn't look good or doesn't look right or etc. It's the thought that matters. It's pretty open minded.

Where you live doesn't matter, but it is a bit odd for a non-Japanese to be Shinto, since Shintoism is so heavily Japan-centric.

There are ways to practice Shintoism, and you should know the correct way to pray at a shrine (although I have no idea if there are any in South Australia) and such, but even in Japan, fervent Shinto believers are actually pretty rare.
