Default what are some ideal shinto/buddhist designs/symbols to paint on a wall?

Im trying to avoid the obvious dragon or yin-yang...but would like some nice ideas for paintings on my feature wall...

any ideas?

any other info/advice is great..
Also, my feature wall is chocolate brown, what co lour should I use to paint the design on?
mum why have i been called a Nazi?

Swastika, but be sure to paint it the other way 'round to the Nazi way.

If you are interested in Tibetan Buddhism, you can check out the Eight Auspicious Symbols. They are pretty cool. If you are interested in painting a swastika, which is, indeed a Buddhist symbol, then it should be painted turning clockwise. Counterclockwise is not Nazi, like someone else mentioned, but used in another Tibetan religion called Bon (umlaut the o).

There are also loads of Buddhist deities who are awesome and have particular symbols associated with them, such as Manjushri, who wields a flaming sword designed to cut ignorance. A lotus is a good symbol, as well.
