Buddhist have Indian/hindu flavor. lots of decorations deep reds and such.

Shinto shrines are very much subject to the style of Japanese temple building , simple, elegant, usually with a tori for the gate.

Shinto shrines can even be a tiny stone house on the side of the road for a spirit to live in.

the two are very different.

Buddhist temple have Buddhist statue in it and actually livable.
Shinto: Might or might not even have a roof or even anything, you can put a gate up and call it a temple. Oh and their shape look like the Shinto sign.(the gate i mean).

The color and design are pretty much the same since it both came from eastern culture.

Shinto temples are found only (mostly) in Japan, so tend to use Japanese architecture.

Buddhist temples are found all around the world (Buddhism started in what is now Nepal, a long way away from Japan). I've seen some beautiful Dzong architecture on Buddhist temples.
