Shinto and Buddhism are 2 separate religions. Shinto is the national religion of Japan since ancient times, and deals with spirits and gods of the natural world. Buddhism originated in India and passed through China and Korea, eventually spreading to Japan around 500 A.D..

Although they are intertwined in the history and culture of Japan, they don't interact or have anything in common. Finding a Buddhist image at a Shinto shrine would be extremely unusual. It would be like seeing a Catholic cross at a Muslim mosque.

No Buddhist figure in Ise Jingu
But we can see the god of the Buddhism in the Shinto shrine still now.
It is not strange in polytheism.

--
Ise Shintoism was used for the policy of the nation from the Meiji era to the world war.
So it was separated clearly with the Buddhism.
Therefore, there is no Buddhist figure now.

However, I think it had the Buddhist figure before.
Because it is said that Ise Shrine had had the Jinguji-temple before.

--
Many Japanese believe both the Buddhism and Shintoism.
Because the religion of polytheism is easily accepted to the another religion.
We visit the Shinto shrine at the New Year , do the funeral at temple, enjoy the Christmas Eve , sometimes have a church wedding.

Shinto and Buddhism are 2 separate religions now.
But they were mixed with a long time in Japan.

The god of the Buddhism was enshrined to the Shinto shrine (Benzaiten etc).
The Japanese god was called a Bosatsu (Buddhist saint) at the same time (Hachimandaibosatsu etc).

Oppositely , Japanese gods were taken to Buddhism as many gods of Hinduism were taken before.
It was said that Japanese gods became Buddha's apprentice.
There was a theory that Japanese gods are Buddha's incarnation. (an opposite theory also exists)
For example Amaterasu the highest god in Shintoism is incarnation of Vairocana (both are symbols of the sun.)

The temple built and managed the Shinto shrine.
The temple to defend the Shinto shrine was built.
These temple were called Jinguji-temple.

This tendency was remarkable until the instruction that separates them is declared in the 19th century.
