Why shouldn't they? They are raised to believe in it, like any religion.

why do people believe in Christianity? how about in the Hindu religion? different people have different reasons, whether it be that they got it from their parents or they decided on their own.

Shintoism is primarily a religion/culture in Japan.

As a result if a person dose not live in Japan or is Japanese it is unlikely that he will come in contact with it.

The same reason people believe in the Christian one.

Because it makes sense to them and they feel that they can relate. I mean, why believe in any religion? Well, because you trust it and feel a connection between yourself and the religion's values.

that's the same as asking "why are you a christian or Jewish or Hindu?"

because people are either:

-raised that way
-around it a lot
-affects them in some emotional way
-fear of punishment in society

I don't know anything about Shintoism.

The question applies equally to any religion. Why DO people believe in weird things?

Why do people "believe" in anything they can't produce evidence for? Beliefs are subjective. If they feel right to a person, the person will believe.

My answer is the same as most of the others, Why not?
Why do people believe in the Christian Religion, why do people believe in the Jewish Religion, why to people believe in_________(name your religion).
The little bit that I know about it makes it sound like a most Spiritual practice.

I think it's important for people to realize that there are two kinds of Shinto in Japan: Shrine (jink Shinto) and Secretarian (Joya Shinto). I practice a form of Secretarian Shinto called Konkokyo (WNW.konkokyo.or.jp).

I practice Konkokyo because I myself have seen the benefits of it in my life. My family has benefited from its teachings and the Founder, Konko Daijin's workings.
