There is no "God" of Shinto, there are multiple Kami [which is more like spirits than gods, often mistranslated or interpreted as gods] who are local to different areas of Japan.
The most important Kami of the Shinto religion is Amaterasu of the Sun.

Shinto does not have a founder nor does it have sacred scriptures like the straws or the bible. Propaganda and preaching are not common either, because Shinto is deeply rooted in the Japanese people and traditions.

It's hard to find detailed information on Shinto here in America, as not many people have heard of it. Books on it are somewhat hard to find and Internet resources are limited.
