Would this make the bodies also a materialistic aspect that needs to be thrown off to in order to reach the final goal? Would this be a hindrance that needs to be left behind?

Karma - if you forget to water your lawn it will die.

Samsars - the lawn is gone, plant some flowers in its place.

Perhaps you could hire a Shinto Atheist (whatever one of those might be) to do the job for you.
