First, if you want details do a freak in' go ogle search.
Second, Shinto is the native religion of Japan. It has nothing to do with Buddhism other than the fact that nowadays it has absorbed some elements (all religions are pancreatic when interacting with others).

well first of all, Buddhism has the concept of ascension, which is completely missing in Shintoism. Shintoism is a religion that focuses on pleasing the spirits of this life. as where Buddhism is a religion that focuses on attaining a good next life.

in japan Shinto people often have Buddhist funerals to that effect.

secondly, the story of creation is completely different. Shinto has a lovely story about gods throwing ponies at each other. Buddhism has no story of creation. there are no Buddha's in shintoism. there are kami's kamis are devine spirits that make up the universe. they are not gods as the gods are in mahayana buddhism.

a beatiful tree can be a kami an emperor can be a kami.

Shintoism is a far cry from Buddhism in any form, even if they read like there are a lot of the same ideas.
