Default Sikhism Question?

Why did Guru Gobind Singh leave the Guru Granth Sahib (the book) as the final authority for Sikhs?

Because he wanted a Guru where there would be no arguing about, he thought of Guru Granth Sahib as religious and knew that if he left a person in charge then there would be problems each time deciding when there was going to be a new Guru. Putting Guru Granth Sahib as the final authority allowed for the Sikhs, in Guru Gobind Singh Jee's mind, as a peace and a continuing religion that could never be destroyed.

Sikhism started with Guru Nanak and was revealed to humanity-step by step so we can absorb it and adapt to it. Gurus showed and led by example and lived life to its fullest. Nothing more was left to show in human form. Shabad [The Word] Guru is part of Sikh trinity. Other two being Nirgun and Srgun. IE-God is in everything, God is separate from all BUT his word is humming in the universe as Anhad [Shabad]! So Gurus had done it all-given people a heavenly constitution, integrity and purpose- which non Sikhs cant even imagine. But us Sikhs are not too smart to recognize it. His game plan was done. His job was done. There was no Need for another Guru to improve on what had been done. Gurus had shown us what had to be shown. Project "Mercy to Integrity" was done from 1469 to 1710. When a job is done it's done. He was done! He only came to us on God's orders and wanted to to go back to Him.
