Default Can a Westerner convert to Sikhism?

I heard that the Indian Sikhs are not accepting of Western Sikhs and Western Sikhs go to their own temples and do things totally differently.
Steelboy are you a Western Sikh?

Yes. You have to go to a groupware and talk to a priest on how to go about doing it.

I think that's a religion that you have to be born into.

Sikhs seem more to be geared toward Indian Muslim or Hindu converts, if you can get over the fact that it mixes Hinduism with Islam than go for it.
Sikhism combines Hinduism, Islam and elements of Yoga practices into one set doctrine, doesn't seem like something every group of people would try to get into.

There are thousands of western Sikhs who are proud of their religion. There is no such thing of rejecting western Sikhs, western Sikhs build their own temples because their population is concentrated in a area where there are no other Sikhs. Apart from this there are cultural differences, for example food they eat in Lang.

Edit: No, I am not a western or eastern Sikh, I am Sikh(seeker of True knowledge) of Guru Granth. Websites
WNW.sikhnet.com
WNW.sikhiwiki.org
WNW.srigranth.org
are maintained by Sikhs of America(nearly all of them are white). Parents or grand parents of many of these belonged to Happy culture, however after coming in touch with Sikhism, their thinking changed. They left their bad habbits and educated their children in Sikh way. They have come forward for the dissemination of message of Guru and all Sikhs regularly visit and donate to their missions.

No its not like that at all, rather western Sikhs have much more faith in Sikhism, they enjoy more peace of mind. At Golden Temple Amritsar hundreds of western Sikh can be seen, even they are seen singing the hymns in the temple. There may be some language problem but it can be solved. There are so many educated learned Sikhs who can guide them properly. Steel boy has also very well said that a separate temple may a requirement for a particular area.
Secondly Sikhism does not give importance to civil qualification, even an illiterate person can achieve the target of realization of God with devotion.

This Shabad is by Guru Nanak Dev Ji in Raag Aasaa on Pannaa 469

Pauree:

If an educated person is a sinner, then the illiterate holy man is not to be punished.

As are the deeds done, so is the reputation one acquires.

So do not play such a game, which will bring you to ruin at the Court of the Lord.

The accounts of the educated and the illiterate shall be judged in the world hereafter.

One who stubbornly follows his own mind shall suffer in the world hereafter. ||12||

For any quarry/guidance, I am always here at your service.
