I've always been confused as to if it's the "armed wing of Hinduism" or not.

Sikhs I spoken to have always been "yes and no" on that.

You're asking this either because you want information on Sikhism (which you could have easily gotten by now by scrolling up to the top of the page and searching Yahoo.com for "Sikhism"), or you already have your own opinions on Sikhism and you just want to hear from other people who already agree. I ain't playing this game.

All I know is that it's monotheistic and its beliefs are very similar to the Abrahamic beliefs.

It is an offshoot of both Hinduism & Islam. It is one of the Dharmic religions, but, is monotheistic.

It was founded by Guru Nanak, & it is predominant in the Punjab.

Sikhism grew out of Islam, but it has elements of Hinduism. This may have been inevitable considering the hard feelings between Muslims and Hindus in India and neighboring countries. Sikhs were often caught between the others during conflicts. Sikhs don't follow the Islamic notion of a world-wide community. They have a "homeland", Khalistan (part of India). Also Sikhs don' t try to conquer other peoples like Muslims do, so Sikhs co-exist quite peacefully within other cultures.

I have friends who are Sikh who I am fond of but I believe their teachings to be wrong. They almost worship those who saved them in in their history and the book they read from at their temples.

They are usually a very kind, hospitable people and like to fit in with British life for the most part. They arrange marriages for their children, but the family I know put a lot of effort into finding nice suitable marriage partners for their young adult children. They tend to use their Indian languages within the household and keep their culture very much alive.

Women used not to be encouraged to get a good education but this is changing in the current generation and they now want them to do well so that they will have better job opportunities.

Sikh religion is based on teachings of Guru Nanak (1469-1539). At that time Hindostan (modern India, Pakistan, Bengla Desh, Burma and Sri Lanka) had four prominent religions namely Hindus, Muslims, Jainism and Yogis called Sidhas (A mixture of Hinduism and Buddhism). Buddhism had disappeared from India but Lamas were present in Tibet. All these religions were corrupted. People were being robbed on the name of religion. He was borne in a small village in Punjab and started his mission around 1500. He had four long missionary journeys during which he travel led about 70000 mks. He went to all religious places and taught people the true religion. He converted thugs, cannibals, condemned caste system and untouchabllaitysociety. He preached equality of man and woman. He boldly said that in God's eyes no one is Hindu or Muslim. He looks at deeds. When he died his Hindu followers built a shrine on his name and Muslim made a grave. These are still preserved at Kartarpur in Pakistan. Nine more human Gurus followed him. People who followed him were later on called Sikhs (Disciples) There after Guru Granth Sikh scriptures was declared Guru of the Sikhs.

Guru Granth is the holy book of Sikhs. It is poetry and can be sung. To understand fully we need to pay attention to Rahao or pause, which contains the gist of shabad or song. In versions where there is no pause gist normally is in last lines. Gurus/bhagats talked with Hindus and Muslims and used their vocabulary. Guru Granth is full of love and logic. More you dig into it, more you love God. It does not matter what path you choose. It also comes heavily on fake rituals like practicing celibacy, begging, creating Parallel gods, believing in fasts, pilgrimage.bathing at various sacred places, Sikhism does not believe in imposing anything but accepts Sehaj, which means everything should come as a result of love. Five basic pillars of Sikhism are:
Truth, Contentment, Rationalism, Name(God's Name) and Sharing with needy.
