I don't know an awful lot about the religion, but I do know quite a few Sikhs... and without a doubt they are some of the loveliest people I've ever met. They've all been Aussie Sikhs... can't speak for other countries.

Just as wacky and stagnant as any other religion.

I will give them credit for being the only religion to have killed over the use of chairs.

Well first of all I may tell you I am an Amritdhari Sikh (having divine nectar on behalf of true Guru, the Holy Book Sri Guru Granth Sahib. In my opinion those so called Sikhs you see by out look, generally do not know much about Sikhism.) If you ask me about Sikhs, there are 5 types of Sikhs.

1. Who have born in a Sikh family, Nothing more than, that they appear to be a Sikh. They are not concerned what is happening in their religion. Whole of the life they remain confined to outer look.

2. Second type of Sikh is that who is a bit ahead to first one. He possesses the outer look. Besides this they regularly go to Gurudwara and bow their head before the Holy Book.

3. Third type is a little ahead. Besides about qualities, they recite the literature of true Guru, without understanding what is the meaning of that. But since it is the order of Guru, they have to read the litererature. Whole of their life goes like that. They are not concerned with more.

4.The fourth typle besides above qualities, try to undersand the meaning also, but they can not be said as the successful, since they do not follow the exract. Not only this they try to misguide others that in sikhism such and such is valid life nonveg etc. Therefore these type of sikhs are most risky one,. They show that they know every thing. But some times cause harm to sikhism.

5. The fifth type of Sikhs can not be decribed in words. Even they can not be seen frequently. With great fortune one can have their company. They not only study the litereture and understand its meaning, but exactly follow the order of Guru. There is no difference between their saying and doing. They chant the name of God, contemplate His name in deep meditation. They are always helpful to others. In their company one remains delighted. They never beg or borrow from others. They work hard to earn for their needs. They donate 10 percent of their income for religious purpose or give to poor needy people. They encourage others for chanting the name of God. They do not praise for their religion, but say others to be firmed in their religion. They are saint as well as soldier also, who could protect themlelves and others also from evil forces.

Sikhism is the philosophy of True Guru, One who follows the order of Guru, He says, he imerges in God, like water in water

This Hymn is at page 633 in raag Sorath by nineth Guru

gur kirapaa jih nar ko keenee thih eih jugath pashhaanee ||
That man, blessed by Guru's Grace, understands this way.

naanak leen bhaeiou gobi(n)dh sio jio paanee sa(n)g paanee ||3||11||
O Nanak, he merges with the Lord of the Universe, like water with water. ||3||11||
