Default In Sikhism, is it forbidden (or at least strongly discouraged) to have a haircut?

How do they normally control it?

No, it is not forbidden. Plenty of Sikhs around with a normal hair-cut.

Sikhs believe that hair is a natural and beautiful part of a body and many do not cut their hair. They are not forbidden to cut their hair. Many cut their hair out of preference. Others do not.

Every Sikh is supposed to keep the following five ?K?s, which also serve to identify him as a Sikh:

Kesh ? uncut hair.

Kanga ? comb; used to keep the hair clean.

Kada ? metal or steel bangle; for strength and self-restraint.

Kirpan ? dagger; for self-defense.

Kaccha ? special knee length underwear or under-drawer for agility.

So yes it is, according to the Sikh scriptures.

Sikh tradition requires uncut hair. However many Sikhs have become Westernised and get the same haircut as non-Sikhs.

Hair is not the only thing Sikhism's all about .
Hair is one of 5 K's . Only an outward appearance . Sikhism should be in hearts as well .
Hair ( Kesh ) is something sacred for Sikhs . Hence , we Sikhs keep it intact .
Sikhs are ordered by their Gurus not to trim or shave any hair because body is a gift from God not to be tampered with .
It is forbidden for Sikhs to get their hair cut . Some youngsters who under pressure may cut their hair .
