I know that Hinduism and Jainism are quite peaceful religions, but I don't know much about Sikhs, because I don't have any Sikh friends or acquaintances...
Yes. I've actually visited a Sikh temple. Though they are often persecuted, Sikhism teaches tolerance and the belief that all religions lead to the same God.
As long as they do not use their Korans.. Kirpans are swords or tiny knives that Sikhs have on them.. In India many carry them around and are not afraid to use them in riots and even in one particular case to rob McDonalds!!
But in any other country it is considered a weapon and they will be arrested so I guess they dint do it anymore..
Well anyways just go ogle Sikhs and India.
@Karam Singh.. So you admit that Sikhs had enough of Hindus and wanted to show them what it was like if some Hindus died and so they killed innocent people!! Do you even realize what you just said!
Out of all the people that died, only 22 were Indian in the first place, and I'm sure they all were not Hindus, and the Capt. Satinder Singh Bhinder that served as the First Officer was probably a Sikh!!
They also killed 270 Canadians, 23 Britishers, 3 Soviets, 2 Brazilians, 2 Americans, 2 Spanish, 1 Finnish and 1 Argentinian..
@ the asker, I guess no religion is peaceful, everyone mis-interprets religion after all, there are atrocities happening at the hands of Christian, Muslims, Hindus http://www.hinduonnet.com/mag/2002/09/01/stories/2002090100020400.htm
http://www.truthandgrace.com/Hinduterrorists.htm
Atheists
Buddhists http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0011/S00003.htm
but all these people are called 'extremists' and I guess every other religion has a small percentage of them
Sikhs believe in freedom of expression and freedom of religion of all human beings .
Sikhs believe in equal rights for women .
Sikhs believe in equality of all human beings.
As one person said , Sikhs only keep swords as a part of their religion , since we have been persecuted since the day Sikh religion started .

Hello. Sikhism is a very peaceful religion. Ever since we have existed, We have gone through alto. The ninth Sikh Guru, Tegh Bahadur Ji sacrificed his life to save Hinduism. In 1984, there was an attack on the Harimandir Sahib, which the media made Sikhs look bad but the Hindus who's ancestors were saved by a Sikh, were attacking Thar Sikh Holiest Shrine. About the plane thing, Sikhs had had enough. We were warriors and needed to see if the Indians would do anything if a plane crashed. So yes, Sikhism is a good religion and probably one of the best for both a man and woman's life, both genders have always had equal rights as women give birth to kings. Roxanne you are utterly dumb. have you gone to school before.
Sikhism believes in the concept of saint soldier - our 10Th Guru has made a quote - " When all other means have failed, it is permissible to draw the sword." This was valid in the days of lawlessness and Muslims invasions, its not really valid today.
To those Sikhs who insist that India is still a land of lawlessness and Sikhs are victims i have given this earlier answer - you can read the entire discussion, even whist the others have said

Now India has a large frustrated middle class who gets a little pleasure from a few sources only, cricket, maybe movies. Everybody wants something to cling to to be happy. The British have fed the Sikh ego by calling them a martial race only because they wanted to make use of Sikhs in the world wars - and Sikhs stupidly fought for one country England, to protect the land of a second country France against a third country - Germany.
The modern day Sikh fools still entertain visions of a martial race, call themselves Soldiers and every now and then pick up a Koran and run muck on the roads where everybody watches in amusement. But that does not mean we are not a peaceful religion.
EDIT - Roxanne - A Koran is always blunt - it cannot be used as a weapon so stop hallucinating. Of course there are idiots in our community who use as an object of aggression and some might sharpen it if laws are not stringent, so i personally feel that the Sikh leadership should themselves ban the Koran in public places
The Air India thing? You guys probably don't even know what was behind that.
Sikhism is definitely peaceful. Listen to the people who know what they're talking about, not prejudiced idiots who are completely ignorant and don't know what they're giving an opinion on.
