Sufism Sufism is a mystical-ascetic approach to Islam that seeks to find divine love and knowledge through direct personal experience of God. By focusing on the more spiritual aspects of religion, Sufis strive to obtain direct experience of God by making use of "intuitive and emotional faculties" that one must be trained to use.

Roughly, it's a conservative branch of Islam. It includes many of the restrictive practices in daily living (especially for women) but not the type of violent radicalism seen with typical jihad is.

Many people understand in different ways....What I find , after looking at the life styles of all known Sufis and recognized Sufis....like...Hazrat Ali (R.A)....Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jailani, Hazrat Ganj Shakkar, Hazrat Fareed, Nizam adding Awlia, Hazrat Sabir etc.......Sufism simply is...

1. Obey the command of Allah and Sharia as a lover obey the commands and wishes of love.....
(normal people obey these command as a servant obey the commands of a master...which is also correct, but obviously lovers always near to heart than servants)

2. some say sufi ism is a separate sect....no.. they are wrong....all sufis (not their followers) always preached how to apply Sharia in one's own life...and sufi showed it by applying it on their lives.

Preaching of this way is called TAREEQAT (method).. and tareeqat is neither above Sharia nor beyond Shaira...it is the method by adapting this method you can live your life exactly according to Sharia..

All this Tareeqat has started or traced back to Hazrat Ali (R.A) who himself spend a life like a sufi and didn't gather worldly things in his house.....

You can pick any Renowned sufi or sufi line....and check the hierarchy of all sufi...all will unite at Hazrat Ali (R.A)...

Now people call every this or that person as sufi...and then looking at him, they say sufiism is not correct...

but If you see any person who is living a worldly life ....big houses...cars....body guards...etc...and also participating sufi conferences in 5 star hotels......then be sure he is not a sufi.....

Also if you see a person too much dirty (impure)..addicted to drugs...wearing loose dirty cloths and some necklaces etc. ....and can easily be found outside shrines....he is not sufi....
Sufis move away from such activities...and stay in the ordinary people....and live a very very simple life....which even we cannot live easily...and they don't make their properties or assets...

Neither they keep money in the form of charity in their pockets....the money which comes to them they immediately distribute it...exactly according to Sunnah...

and there are many other things ...in this beautiful way of living life according to sharia..

Allah knows best...
