Default Question about Daoism/Taoism?

What are some everyday practices of Taoists?

What is their place of worship (temple, church, shrine, etc.)

What is their spiritual leader?

What are their religious divisions?

I like to eat toast. Though it is not something I do every day.

For me, it is a way of looking at the world. I don't have any particular disciplines, and do little specific reading on the subject. Maybe I am doing it wrong, But I'm OK with that. The simple ideas of the teachings have helped me find peace. That is enough.

There now, Shawn's given you a useful reading assignment. Now I feel better.

Ceremonial Taoism is rare in the US. For most, it's a philosophy to live by.

A good book that answers your questions is The Shambhala Guide to Taoism by Eva Wong.

At the low level of Daoist practice: "In the Daoist small worldly paths they don?t cultivate longevity. What they do is all about fortune-telling, Deng Hui reading, exorcising evil, and healing people, and most small worldly paths use sorcery." copied from page #105 in the Zhuan Falun Lecture on the web. There are other Daoist practice discussed in the Lecture throughout the book. In addition, there are also martial artists in Tai-chi Chuan and Ba Gua Chuan, relatetd to the Daoist belief.

Many Daoist's temples were destroyed during the Great Cultural Revolution in China by the Chinese Communist regime. The most famous temple was built by Emperor Chengzu in Wu-dong Mountain for sage Chang San-Feng.

High level Daoist master does not like the life in the society and always lives in high mountain.

It's somewhat difficult to understand the Daoist belief and let alone the practice of Daoist belief. Before practicing Falun Gong, I have no idea what Daoist does. However, the Zhuan Falun Lecture explains the Daoist belief very well.

Not relating to Buddhism nor Daoism, Falun Gong is a unique school, combining the Daoist and Buddhist practice. Falun Gong was found in 1992 by Master Li Hongzhi in China. About 100 million followers like the practice in over 80 countries worldwide. Falun Gong is an ancient practice for the body, mind, and spirit based upon the universal principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance. Falun Gong consists of five sets of powerful exercises.

Falun Gong, Tibetans, other Buddhists, and Daoists have been persecuted in China. The most offensive human right violation is the organ harvesting from the Falun Gong practitioners in China. Can you kindly sign a petition to stop persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China, please ?
